We're planning a trip down to Seven Feathers Casino in Southern Oregon
in a couple of months & planned to stay in their adjacent RV park
(http://www.sevenfeathers.com/seven_feathers_rv_park.php). I heard
from a friend who called to make his reservation that "they don't
except RV's that travel in the down position that need to pop-up"?
Could this be true? I've heard about campground snobbery but this
would be my first personal experience if true!
TIA,
Dave

Call them up and ask. It might be a theft issue as non-popups can be locked
up much better.

I was trying to avoid that - if I ask specifically they may say no &
then I'll be out of luck. If they don't ask and I just show up to
claim my reservation; they may feel guilty & let me stay because I
"wasn't informed in advance"! Still, that's probably the nest
choice...

Maybe call them up and ask but do not tell them that it is you, and you are
looking at a date farther out in the future. I have gone through this
thought process too <grin>. Getting there and being out of luck would be
embarrassing in front of the family. Best to be sure I suppose.

Could be they don't want to provide bag lunches for the bears.

Bear country? Oregon? I suppose, but I really don't know if that is in bear
country ENOUGH that "soft-sided" campers would necessarily be disallowed.
"RVs that travel in the down position that need to pop-up" is the most unusual
way of describing folding, collapsible or otherwise articulated RVs I've ever
heard. What about Trail Manor? Hi-Lo? Pop-top truck campers?
The Trailer Life Campground Guide is replete with listings for upscale parks
that include "no tents" and "no popup trailers", so the restriction certainly
isn't unusual, but this facility's way of describing their restriction is.
Strange...

Dave,
I've been following this thread with interest so I finally thought what the
heck and called Seven Feathers.. The fellow who answered the phone wasn't
sure so he checked with someone else and sure enough they don't allow "tent
trailers" (he didn't recognise the term "pop up"). He suggested a park
nearby. Stanton Park I got this info from the phone number he gave me and a
google search. Hope this helps,
Keith
"Charles V. Stanton Park
Forty paved campsites, 20 sites with full hookups, 50 picnic units,
restrooms with showers and flush toilets. Fees: $16 for full hookup, $13 for
non-hookup, from May 1-Oct. 31; $14 for full hookup from Nov. 1 to April 30.
Additional vehicles, $3. Recreational vehicle dump site station available.
Playground equipment and South Umpqua River access. Lower portion of park
with seven hookups and six tent sites may be reserved for group camping.
Pavilion rental for $50 per side. Reservations for pavilion or group camping
may be made by calling 957-7001. Interstate 5 Exit 99. Open all year.
(Douglas County)."

Thanks Keith for your extraordinary effort! Because of you I don't
have to disguise my voice with a handkerchief over the phone when I
call SFC! And the info on an alternate campground is great.
As a previous poster pointed out, I don't think bears are the issue.
This campground is located right off I-5 & next to a busy tribal
casino so even if bears did venture down from the hills I doubt they
would hang around long.
At this point I'm just stubborn enough to push this obvious case of
camper discrimination! Since they specifically mentioned "tent
trailers" I think I'll try the "my trailer (Chalet) has hard walls so
that doesn't qualify as a tent" approach... I'll post how it comes
out.
Thanks again,
Dave

Dave,
We travel through that area 3 or 4 times a year (without the trailer,
unfortunately) and there are several really nice parks along that stretch of
hiway 5... seems like every time the freeway crosses a river, you see another
one that would be so nice to spend time in..
Have a great trip, it's a beautiful area..

Just a follow-up: we stayed at SFRV in mid March and didn't have any
problem. The security guy who registered us didn't say a word & the
park was quite full. They either changed their policy or he wasn't
aware of it - so this was a non-issue.
BTW, it was a nice place although a bit noisy from the freeway. No
restrooms in the RV park but you could use the resort next door. See
my complete review on our website: http://www.ligneous.com/cedar

Which may be why they supposedly don't allow pop-ups? Assuming RVs have
self-contained bathrooms?

If they don't except popups, doesn't that mean that they do accept
popups ?

Ha ha. Last time I copy someone's quote verbatim. Bunch a sharp-eyed
critics in this NG! ;-o
But the good news is they didn't toss me out so hoards of pop-up's can
now safely descend on Canyonville...!
