The seal material around the roof on my Coleman Niagara has come loose in a
couple of spots.  Can anyone recommend a adhesive to keep the seal in place.

Thanks!

If you are the original owner and have the benefit of the lifetime roof
warranty, contact your dealer and have them repair it.  I am, and I did.
Fleetwood has a "kit" which the dealer can order and install.

My experience has been that once it starts separating, it will continue
no matter what you try...you can slow it down, but you can't stop it.
The best stuff I used when mine started down this road was automotive
weatherseal adhesive.  It's really crappy to work with, but it
worked...for awhile.  Then I emailed Coleman/Fleetwood, they sent an
email back confirming that they consider the gasket to be a part of the
roof and subject to the warranty.  But a dealer has to inspect and verify.

If you are not the original owner, I'd still go ahead and ask the dealer
what the kit would cost to order and install for you.  At least you'll
know what the score is, for that inevitable time when the damn thing
comes loose everywhere.

I had the same problem, but was not the original owner. For $400 you can get
a new seal and glue, I decided to use 100% silicone and it has worked so far
(6 months) but does not look like a permanent fix.

Is that a rubber roof?  If so, all I hear is that  you should not use
silicone.  All the RV places sell a "self leveling" sealant.

Rich, it's a pop-up, so not a rubber roof as on TT or 5er.

the Coleman roof is made of ABS, and I think nothing stays glued to it
very easily

I used some black automotive Silicon on my Seapine.  Its been working
for about 9 months.  It came off right over the door area.  I'm the
original owner.  It will go to the dealer if it comes off again.

Ouch!   :(

Then again, it IS, after all, a CRITICAL component in the folding system.

I wonder how much $ an official service center would charge for their labor to
do the work.

I wonder the length of the warranty, if any, on such work done professionally.

Would it be worth having the $400 "part" professionally installed?

Actually that's a bit high, my dealer charged me about $275 for both.
However, the new ABS seal is peel and stick, no glue needed.

The instruction indicated that 90 minutes was the expected install time.
That probably doesn't include the time to clean off the old adhesive.

Greetings,

I've only seen this once, but you MIGHT be able to look at the mounting
surface for the factory gasket and find a replacement weather strip for car
doors that could clip on in its place all around the perimeter of the roof.
The one I saw had this plus another door type gasket with double-faced tape
also mounted around the perimeter on the top edge of the camper box (plus a
cut piece along the top edge of the folding door).

When the roof was down, the two gaskets met firmly and looked to make a very
good seal.  This should be much cheaper than the factory gasket repair kit
for $400.00 (!).

I suggest inspecting the roof edge where the original gasket is coming off,
then look in a J.C. Whitney catalog at the various door gaskets they sell
(they also provide a profile cutaway drawing of each type of door gasket)
and find one that will match.  For the section along the top of the walls,
use the gasket they sell for sealing the gap in the tailgate of pick-up
trucks.

I had the old style one-piece roof replaced on my Coleman a few years back
so I'm unable to go look for you at how the roof edge is formed where the
gasket is mounted and suggest a specific style of replacement.

Cheers - Jonathan

I think the problem with these is to have to gasket stick permanently to
the ABS... seems like most product won't last long...

Thanks for the info.  I got my Niagara back from the dealer today.  The
total cost for replacing the roof gasket was $37.50 for freight and tax.

good thing the warranty covers for the gasket cost!  I think they are
very expensive!
