Coleman ABS roof

Hi:

Just a brief question.  I have a Coleman Rio 1998 with the ABS roof.  I had
it replaced once before around 2001 or 2000.

The roof gasket is beginning to slip over the edges but is still securely
fastened to the ABS roof.  So, I believe the roof is widening a bit and not
making a seal along the edges . Now, I am sure I could somehow add
additional gasket material to widen the gasket to ensure a tight seal.

But, my question is if I take it back to a dealer (I am the original owner)
and they suggest replacing the roof...what does a new roof look like?  I
believe I read in some thread that they are no longer ABS roofs?  Correct?

Thanks.

Sorry to say this, but sounds like a Sagging problem... do a newsgroup
search, you'll find Millions on hits on Coleman ABS roof sag....

The new roof is Aluminium based, not ABS, the part I'm not sure is that
can it be retrofit to older models.  Your dealer will be able to
confirm.  Also, unfortunately for you, the dealer will charge you for
the freight ( as original warranty covers parts-labor-freight for 1
year, and part-labor only for subsequent years.)

But you better have it checked before you have water intrusion
(specially when towing the pop-up and it's raining)

According to my dealer, yes, the new roof is being put onto older models
if the ABS roof needs to be replaced.  The ABS roof on my '00 Westlake
is not sagging, but when they replaced the gasket they found a few
hairline cracks along the bottom edge of the roof which were mostly
concealed by the gasket...a few of them had just started to make the
turn up around the face of the roof, but they were so small I would
never have noticed them.  That was last spring.  When I get her out of
storage this spring I'll make the call as to whether to get the roof
replaced.

And also confirming, I was told the roof & labor would be covered (I
think otherwise it's probably over $1,200) but I'd need to pay freight
which would be $300 (I think they still ship from the Fleetwood plant in
PA which is not far from me).

I replaced the ABS roof on my '00 Mesa with the new aluminum style. The roof
and installation was 'free' but shipping to Florida was painful - $800. The
new style seems far better than the old. There are still some seams, but
only at the end cap. The sides are wrapped down to the bottom edge, rather
than joined at the curve. There is also a new integrated roof rail, which
may hide other seams.

Hi:

Thank you everyone for the information.  I'll check it out this spring.
