I have a 94 starcraft and when putting the door down, the top of the
door has an aluminum hinged piece that has swivel type connectors that
push through the aluminum to lock the door in place - I don't konw if
this is standard on all doors, but mine have worn out and wont stay in
the hole (on the actual camper) any longer. I have tried bigger screws
and rivets, but nothing has worked. Has anyone encountered this
problem and if so, how do you fix it? The hole in the aluminum is
about 1 1/2 sizes too big for the screw and since you can't keep
getting a bigger screw because the plastic piece will only take so big
of screw, what do you do? Is there some sort of reinforcemnt or anchor
to buy that you can put into the worn out hole?
Thanks

If there is enough room in the oval opening in the door for clearance (both
width and thickness), you could consider super-gluing a slim nut over the
screw hole. Then the plastic swivel fastener could be attached to that nut
via the correct size bolt, instead of a screw.

This sounds EXACTLY like the mickey-mouse setup I had on my 1987 Starcraft
Galaxy. I know EXACTLY what you are referring to.
I suggest contacting a automotive body shop to see if they can suggest some
sort of compound that you can INJECT into the void that, when it cures, is
solid enough to drill holes in and mount screws to. Just a thought...
