I have a 1998 Coleman Sun Valley with an ABS roof. I have just noticed
hairline cracks on the front and coming from under the factory mounted
air-conditioner. I am not in a position financially to replace the
roof at this point (I am the second owner). Since the cracks are
hairline I am wondering if I can paint the roof with a paint that might
seal the cracks and give me a few more years before I need to replace
it. Any thoughts?

No paint will stick to the ABS, that I'm aware of.

I used a high class coating for my mobile home but dont know if it would be
recommended for a tent trailer. I was covering a galvanized surface. If
you are interested in that you need to consult a distributor of such
products...not Home Depot but somebody who supplies commercial roofing
coatings. I cant recall the name of the material I used but it has been
first rate. It is also expensive.

Best source would be to contact either a Fleetwood dealer, or Fleetwood
directly, and ask them (as the second, non-warranted owner) whether any
re-roofing products will adhere to the ABS roof to temporarily seal
hairline cracks.
My guess is you're pretty much SOL. The automotive weatherseal stuff I
tried to use to re-glue the gasket to the underside of the ABS roof when
the gasket started separating, was some awful sticky stuff, very messy
and difficult to work with but it seemed like it would stick to
ANYTHING. But it began separating after a couple of months.

The problem is that is not going to stop the cracking or stop the
current cracks from spreading. I have patched the cracks under my awning
using UV stablized 1/16 in ABS patches and either Plastic Fusion or
Plastic Welder epoxy available at HD/Lowes. This is the same epoxy
Fleetwood sells to hold on the awning rail. Look in the Yellow Pages for
plastic distributors to find the ABS sheet. Another possible is to weld
it, Harbor Freight has a plastic welding kit with ABS rods on sale for
$30 frequently.

I have a 1965 Apache tent trailer with an ABS roof. I patched the cracks
with a mixture of ABS powder (ground up pipe) and ABS pipe cement. My roof
had some fairly bad cracks some 6 to 8 inches in length.
The repair has held for over two years now, even sitting in the sun without
a cover.

Greetings,
You may find some product that will seal your current cracks, but it will
not last because you are not correcting the issues that are initially
causing the cracks and allowing them to continue. Unless you address the
cause, any patch most likely will fail over time as the cracks expand or new
ones occur, not to mention that it will be hard to find a product that will
adequately bond to the coated ABS roof in the first place.
You don't mention just how bad your current cracks are, but there still may
be stop-gap solution if you are willing to put in some effort. You could
contact Coleman dealers and see if any have an older style ABS roof like the
one you have that is in better shape and get them to swap it out for you.
Since you are not the original owner and the lifetime warrranty does not
apply, they may be willing to help you out to engender some good will from
you in the future.
The only other idea is somewhat less than ethical. If you still know the
original owner, see if they would be willing to go to bat for you with
Coleman about a new roof.
Good luck - Jonathan
