I have had the camper for 2 years now and both years we have had mice
problem. This last winter I put 12 mouse traps and 10 bait packs as
well as 4 trays of moth crystals in the camper, I also have looked
under the camper for holes. I used marine tape that they use to seal
boats up for the winter to cover any seams or holes or anything I felt
was a space to gain entry. still there was mouse damage this winter.
Not nearly as bad as last year. What else can a person do? really dont
have the room or the want to take out all the canvas, cushions, beds
etc to store it in the winter.
Any help in this matter would be great. Thanks...

I think you have done most everything I have heard or read about.  I do the
same thing, but use moth balls, putting 3 or 4 in the toe of an old child's
sock, and then tying the 'neck' on itself.  I think I put out 9 or 10 such
socks in my small pop-up, in all kinds of places:  under drawers, in
cabinets, in the refrigerator vented space on  the outside, in the water
tank area, etc.  Fortunately, I have never had a mouse problem.  Maybe I am
just lucky.  Oh yes...make a list of where you put the socks, so you can
find them _all_ when you open the pop-up in the spring to air things out!

Perhaps locking a cat in the camper for the winter? ;-)

Taping holes alone won't stop mice. But take some Steel Wool and place
it in the hole before you tape it and that will stop them. They don't
like to chew through anything that will damage their teeth and won't try
to go through the Steel Wool.

Damn, I wanted to offer the cat suggestion! I don't know if this works, but
I don't have any mouse problems and never have. My Coleman Colonial (81)
sits on top of 6"block with the wheels removed (stored inside). I don't
leave anything remotely tasty inside. I do however have a bad problem with
bees, seems every year a bee family decides to move in one of the corners.
Just inside the aluminum body panel.

But you have a colonial, the OP is referring to Coleman Bayside mice...

I think that's a different species, isn't it?

As to keeping anything tasty inside... food might not be the target, some
rodents love things like hose and wiring insulation...

LOL!  I was trying to think of a smartass reply when I saw the
subject, but you beat me to it.

2002 and later Baysides have the mice problem solved. That or move to
a Jayco which I've heard do not have mice problems.

I think the mothball thing is self-delusional.  I have seen (and also
heard from one other who has seen) mouse nests inside a half-full box
of moth balls.

Some mice aparently can't smell the moth balls.

So far I've been lucky. Done nothing, and had no mice.

Maybe it's the bloothirsty putty cat we have that loves to pile dead
mice (and other things) at the back door.  She kills them during the
year, so there are none to move in to the pop-up during the winter ;-).
She's a smart cat, and stays in all winter (this is Minnesota), so
she's not keeping them away in winter; just keeping the population down
the rest of the year.

Austin (eww, did you see what the cat left us?)

I guess it all depends on the freshness of the moth balls. Many years
ago, my parents were having problems with mice living under their
cottage, so they put moth balls under where the mice were nesting. A few
weeks later, they checked on it, and all of the moth balls were gone.
Still had mice, though, so they put more moth balls. Again, they were
gone a week later. They eventually figured out that it was a weasel who
was living off the mice, and didn't like the moth balls. So the weasel
decided to move them! We actually saw the weasel scampering across the
yard with a moth ball in its mouth.

Maybe that's what you need -- a weasel!

Personally, I'd rather have moths or mice than the smell of moth
balls. Jeez that smell is nasty.

buy the mouse a Barbie house that you locate just beside your pop-up.

I also like the cat idea!

You may want to check with a pest control company they have some stuff
that will take care of the mouse very effectively

We take everything mice like out, all paper, cardboard, curtains,
cushions, etc.  Then I use brass wool near the only major holes (power
cord door).   Finally, I use one box of scented dryer sheets throughout
the camper.  Never had a mouse problem in the popup and the camper
smells great during the spring setup.

Now, I do have mice problems in other locations in the yard...my
tractor for example.  Mice always build nests in my engine compartment.
I use mothballs in there during the winter...no success.

Good luck.
