I see alot of old pop ups in town. Some of these i know havent been used
in a couple years. Sometimes I feel like taking $500-$700 dollars and
offerring buy one of them as is.
I figure a raggity pop up is at least as useful as the average 4 year
old tent. there are no rental places where I live

I dunno... Does the average 4 year old tent LEAK?
You'll find that most "abandoned" popup campers are in pretty bad shape. And
I mean that to include those that haven't been moved or popped-up for 5-6
years or more. They might SELL cheap, but remember: There is NO such thing
as a "free" lunch and you get what you pay for.
If you are particularly handy and have the TIME (and money) to fix-up an old,
used popup, you could probably save a lot of $$ and end up with a nice camper.

It's almost the end of June. Can you wait another month or three? If yes,
you can probably get an almost-new unit by watching classified ads and
probably eBay. There are always barely-used camping trailers for sale at the
end of a season by those that THOUGHT they'd like camping and towing a trailer
but DISCOVERED that they DIDN'T like it after all. Good luck!
