Jayco 2002 10X
I had to change a flat tire on past weekend's camping trip. The flat
tire and the spare tire were both originals from the camper. Question:
when I go out to buy a new tire now, should I use it as new spare tire,
or should I take tire that I just put on and put it back as spare ?
Thanks in advance.

I would use the new tires the new spare. Tires slowly wear out even if not
used (due to UV, drying & cracking with age, etc.). Therefore, were you to
leave your 2002 vintage tire (probably manufactured in 2001) as the spare,
and need to use it in another 6 years, it may not be in good shape.

When I blew out a tire, I bought 2 new tires as a pair and put them on the
axles. I then took the best one of the ones that were left and used it for
the spare. In that case the best one was the original spare, replaced on
the way back.
The reason that I bought 2 new tires was that I went up in load rating to
get a stronger tire. This resulted for me in less worrying about rough
off-roads and increased stability in trailing on the highway.

IMO, tires should be replaced in sets... same tire, tread design, age, etc...
just a safety thing..
If you don't already have a spare cover, get one.. adds a few years to your
spare and keeps it cleaner.. and you hands cleaner when you fix a flat or rotate
tires..
If you compare the size of the trailer tires with the TV tires, it's pretty
obvious how many more times they rotate than the TV tires.. that's a lot of wear
and heat and your families safety can depend on how much rubber is meeting the
road and what shape it's in..
Personally, I'll buy cheap tools and appliances before even considering less
than very good quality trailer tires.. YMWV
