We just bought a '96 Viking trailer that comes with a (I think) round
7-pin connector (which plugs into a rectangular block). I installed a
factory wiring harness on the Pilot - a four-pin flat connector. If I
buy a 4-pin to 7-pin adapter, do I need to do any re-wiring to make the
brake lights, etc work ok? I assume there'll be no power to the
trailer's 12V battery with this setup. Is there a way (an easy way I
should say) to enable this? TIA.

Yes an adapter should work.
But!! Does the trailer have electric brakes?
If the trailer came with a 7 pin connector it probably has electric
brakes. You then need a 7 pin on the tow vehicle and a brake controller.

The connections in a flat four are usually:
Running lights
Left turn signal/brake light
Right turn signal/brake light
Ground
The seven pin connectors add:
12 Volts
Brakes
'Auxiliary' [sometimes used for back-up light(s)]
