I'm in the market for a pop up here in San Diego, and it seems there
isn't much too look at as far as dealers go. All trailers and RVs.
Does anyone know who has the best selection in Southern California?
Also, will a dealer order a pop up that he doesn't have on the lot?

If they can make a buck, I bet they will.

Sure. My 1987 Starcraft Galaxy was a "special order" from the factory.
They WON'T, however, deal as much on a special order.

I have heard from numerous southern Californians who have stated their
dissatisfaction with the majority of the areas RV dealers. Very high
prices and poor service were the main complaints. Many have instead
driven to Phoenix where I'm told the savings were around 20% cheaper. I
bought a 21' Starcraft Hybrid from Payless RV in Phoenix and it was
$4000 cheaper than in Los Angeles. I have been told that some of the
dealers around Banning, CA. have decent prices and service.

If you don't mind going to Bakersfield try Stier's. I bought mine from
them and they were very patient, not pushy at all, and gave me a great
deal with a WHOLE lot of options thrown in. When I needed parts or
pieces under warranty they took care of it with no questions asked.
They might have a location closer to San Diego and I would imagine
their pricing and good service would be universal but YMMV.

Hi Mike, we also are in San Diego.
A good Dealer can order and customize whatever you want, but don't expect
any bargain pricing.
We were unable to find at our time of purchase many dealers of pop-ups
nearby. We ended up purchasing a Jayco from Richarson's RV, which at the
time carried pop-ups on their Temecula lot. They have since moved them a
little further north to their Riverside lot I think.
Back then, we couldn't find a Starcraft or Coleman model we liked, there
are probably 4-5 dealers carrying these in San Diego area.
If you are buying new, my advice is to buy from a convenient dealership
with a Service department you like and don't clash with.
In our case, that brand new Jayco had to go back at least a dozen times
over the first couple of years to replace [under warranty] virtualy
everything. That's 55 miles up I-15, drop it off and drive 55 miles back
home. Then a week or so later another 55 miles north, pick up trailer (and
verify repair was done and they didn't break something or forget to
reinstall a panel), hitch it up and drive 55 miles south back home.
It got old pretty fast.
We ended up downsizing to a newer, but more basic Jayco, now three years
old with only two problems --- the water pump cracked after year 1 (I just
recently ordered a replacement since we don't actually use it) and the
interior latches have been breaking every now and again; I will probably
just replace all at the same time next major maintenance. This trailer has
NEVER been back to a dealer for service.
You should go to the web site for each model and do a dealer lookup.
