me and wife, no kids.
my entire life I have wanted a camper. do they make pop ups with
bathroom? i HATE using public rest rooms. We have a dodge caravan 3.0
to pull whatever, probably something used or rented to try this out. I
turn 50 next year and would like to do something more than sleep in the
back of my van.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes!  I used to own a Jayco that had a bathroom and shower.  Great pop up.
Had some quality issues but that's another matter.  As long as you like
camping, camping in a tent, etc., you'll love camping in a popup.  I'm in a
travel trailer now but trust me, there's nothing wrong with a popup.  I
enjoyed it a great deal.  No regrets doing that before buying a travel
trailer.  One great thing about a popup bathroom is that the tank is usually
a cartridge and don't have to pull the trailer to the dump station...just
take the tank with you.  I do miss that about my popup.  Happy camping!

Some pop-ups have a cassette toilet, or you could use a porta-potty.  I
would suggest a unit with a 10' box, at least.  You can get a pop-up
with a/c.  Since there are provisions for electricity, a m/w is nice.
If you dont have a furnace, a ceramic heater & elect blanket extends
the season.  email me direct if you have any specific questions.  I
towed my pop-up 10,000 miles with a Dodge Grand Caravan.  email is
ltrib2001 at yahoo dot com.  I get a lot of spam, so please put pop-up
in the subject line.

Go to an RV dealer or show and see.  The new Fleetwood popups with
bathrooms have very cool collapsible walls around the toilet/shower,
rather than just a curtain like my 2000 Westlake.

Bonus: tax rules say that so long as it has on-board cooking, sleeping
and toilet facilities, you can deduct the interest as a second home.  We do.

Well the first thing is that there are a lot of camper popups that
have hot water, showers, and toliet.  The only thing is that you will
never be able to pull them with such puny tow vehicle.

They exist, but any pop-up large enough to have a shower would be too large
to safely pull with your Caravan.

Yeah after looking at the weight numbers I concluded the same thing:(

Only because newer pop-ups have become bloated defeating the purpose
they were designed for to begin with.

My 1996 Coleman Shenendoah had a toilet and shower and weighed 2,000lbs.
I don't think any newer popup with toilet and shower is anywheres
close to that weight.

Check out a Chalet or Aliner.  They are available with shower/toilets
and weigh less than 2000 lb.

If your Caravan has a 3.0 engine, it is strong enough for anything but
mountain climbing. If you buy a lighter weight popup you will be in good
shape if you do the following....Get a transmission cooler! Since you are a
tech (as I am) you won't have a problem installing it.  I bought mine at Pep
Boys and hauled all the way to Wisconsin from Georgia and back with no
problems. Read the owners manual and do the math concerning GVWR and try to
stay under it. As far as the shower goes, a lot of people have installed one
themselves using a little imagination. Go to www.popupexplorer.com and look
for "That Ain't Stock" in the forums. There are a lot of how to pics and
discussion etc. Toilet? Use a porta potti. Hot water heater? Home depot has
a GE 2.5 gallon I bet you could hook up. I did, and believe me my wife
really likes it at the sink. You would have to take a sailor's shower or
find a way to place a bigger water heater somewhere in the camper. Like I
said...if you don't ignore the Caravan's specs for towing and stay away from
Mt. Everest you will be OK. Just don't buy an overweight beast of a camper.
BTW....buy a used one. That way you won't feel bad about carving on it like
a new one. I have been popuping for 16 years and love every minute of it.
Good Luck.
