I just bought my first pop up. An 8 foot Lionel, made in 1976

I responded to an advertisement on craigslist and bought what many
might consider an antique. The owner's manual is long since gone I am
afraid. But the previous owner offered to come by in the spring and
walk me through the setup and take down processes.

Came without the fridge and stove, the previous owner's father bought
the trailer used without them in the early 80s. I already have propane
stove and an electric fridge. The unit has never been cooked in - they
always cooked out to ensure the smell stayed out too.

The canvas had a couple of tears near zippers, but I'm ok with some
duct tape patching for now. If I trust the previous owner, and I do, I
can live with it for a season or so, before I have to spend $$. The
rest of the trailer was immaculate in the interior. Will do some rust
painting on the frame and propane tankholders.

The GVWR is listed on a paper sticker on the door as 1485 lbs, seems a
lot for an 8 foot trailer. My Mazda MPV is rated for 2000 lbs towing,
3000 if I add a tranny cooler, which I intend to do in the spring
before I do any major hauling. I already installed a Class 3 hitch - I
know its more than I need, but if I ever upgrade, it will already be
there.

I towed it home, first trip of about 5 miles. Seemed straightforward
enough, no major issues.

If anyone just happens to have a manual, that would be great.  I did
google and didn't find much.

Did Lionel become Bonair ?

I'm not new to camping, but this is my first trailer. Open to learning
from anyone here.

Try this stuff: <http://www.tear-aid.com>

I've used it successfully for quite some time now, patching minor destruction
of the "soft goods" (show curtains) in the theatre where I work. I tried it
to repair an  18" slit some dough-head inflicted on my pop-up while I had it
opened up to air out here in the driveway, and I'm more than satisfied.  You
can get it direct or buy it thru Cabela's.

Wow....canvas...just like my old 1971 Cox pop-up...there are canvas
treatments that can be used and I highly recommend them....On my present
pop-up I use a leather awl and stitch in some material off of my old
breathable fishing waders and use a little seam cement on the
stitches....works great....

You might or might not find a manual here....

Thanks for that. Now I can't wait for spring.
