East coast routes and RV resorts

My wife and I are about to make our annual snowbird trip from MA to our
house in Florida. We are relatively new to RV'ing and I would like to make
this trip enjoyable for my wife so she may have more interest in traveling
in the RV in the future.

In the past, we just drove on the highway from Boston, either on Rt. 95
(horrible) or Rt. 81, cutting back over to Rt. 95 in Virginia and arrived in
Jupiter, FL in 2-3 days.

This year we'd like to take our time (somewhat) and enjoy a more scenic
route. We would also like to try stopping at good quality RV resorts or
campsites. In the past, we stopped at KOA's because that's all I knew.
Although a couple were very nice, others were somewhat lacking.  We don't
have kids with us, but my wife has 2 small dogs.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations based on this group's experience
of East Coast north to south routes and of pet friendly, quality RV stops
that we may want to stay for a couple of days or more. We are not
necessarily looking for low cost sites. We only do this twice a year and
would like to enjoy it.

Our RV is a Chinook Glacier and we would be looking for full hook-ups.

TIA for any route and site recommendations.

I am not sure where you are going in Fla, but if you go down I-95, take I-4 to
Orange City. You can visit Blue Springs park. They have Manatees that come
there from St.Johns river and they also have camping. You could probably find
their website that may give you more info. It is about 30 minute drive from
Daytona.

Stay on 81 to Tennessee, then take I-181/I-26 to Ashville, North
Carolina, and take in the town and the Christmas scene at
Biltmore Mansion.  Then take I-40 and US 321 over to Pigeon
Forge and look at the Smoky Mountains in winter.  Lots to do in
PF.  Go over to Knoxville, then down to Georgia on I-75.  Stay
at Stone Mountain outside Atlanta and enjoy the winter
festivities.  Lots to do in Atlanta.  Continue south on I-75 to
Florida, bearing off to Tallahassee and continue to the coast at
St. Georges Island.  Nice campground on the end of the island.
There are more bugs at St. Josephs.  Visit Apalachicola for the
small town adventure where shrimping is the business.  Take some
pictures.  Have a good time.

Chattanooga is an other great place to stop for a couple of days.  Great
downtown area, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Aquarium, Civil War
Battlefields.
Good camping with hookups.  Camping world store.

Thanks much, John. We've traveled that route before and it had beautiful
scenic views. Our mistake was that we didn't stop - just kept trucking
through in awe.
