Im planning on getting out in the wilderness with my rv soon ;  just
wondering if Pepper Gas works the same on animals as it does humans ?
Anyone have experience with this ? Thanks.

Check with your postal persons and see what, if anything, works for them.

A water pistol filled with household ammonia works pretty well if the wind
is right. <g>

Bike Nashbar carries Halt. It's used by Postal Carriers and
was recommended to me by one. Used it once, it works great
on dogs.

Have used it on a German shepherd once. It worked great.  It irritates their
nose, mouth, lungs very similar to humans.  I have also been personally
sprayed with it during training and I've found that it is a lousy feeling.
In NH where I work as a Police Officer it is required in order to carry it.
The reason being is that we will be in close contact with the person we
spray when we handcuff them and secure them in our cruisers.  We do feel
some of the effects but not as much as a direct hit. I hope they don't make
us get shot with the tasers,I'm afraid of electricity.

Hi Hp

Locally here in Jacksonville Florida our head honcho of the Police
Department showed on the local TV station the effects of being hit with
the Taser and that it was safe, he took a direct hit in the back wearing
a t-shirt and it fell him like an ox that had been shot.  If it had not
been for the 2 officers holding his arms lowering slowly he could have
been hurt.  At $21 per shot I doubt they will waste a lot of rounds,
fact is they asked for some volunteers and none would.

The stuff designed for humans won't do sh.t but piss off a bear. There
is pepper spray desigend specifically for bears, big canister fires like
20 ft i think, but it's not fool proof. There have been cases where it
was sprayed directly in the bear's face and didn't deter him. Other
times people shoot it too soon and don't even hit the bear at all. Being
out in the wilderness where 9-11 is of little help, might want to
consider a large caliber firearm to back up your humane methods.

There is an old story up an Alaska about how to avoid and deal with
bears.

The recommendation is to carry "bear bells," little bells that jingle
and let bears know you're coming, so you don't startle them. You should
also carry pepper spray.

Finally, you should learn to tell the difference between the scat from
black bears and brown bears (grizzlies). Black bears are only 200-300
hundred pounds and not generally a threat.

Black bear scat is usually full of berries and small animal bones. Brown
bear scat is full of bells and smells like pepper spray.
