Dometic Refridgerator Fire

FYI,

I had emailed Keystone about the Dometic refrigerator catching my Cougar RV
(2002) on fire. I sort of figured they might want more information of say
sorry or something along that line. I was mistaken.  I guess the greedy
bastards don't care who burns up in their 5th Wheelers..  After asking other
RV owners of any problems, almost everyone I asked knew of someone with a
Keystone RV that had caught on fire in the Refrigerator compartment.

I wonder if it would be worth my time to hire a good suing lawyer and go
after both of them?

No.

Keystone will simply point to Dometic and remind you that the fridge is
Dometic's affair.

Dometic will simply point to Keystone and, citing the vast number of their
appliances that function "flawlessly" for decades, suggest that, in the
absence of documentary proof [photographic negatives are best, slides next]
of the specific cause of the fire, Keystone's wiring must have been faulty
and that it's a Keystone issue.

Keystone will remind you that the trailer was out of warranty and, thus,
they have no further legal responsibility for the product.

Oh, yeah - they will, probably, both countersue *you* for legal expenses and
damages for defaming their perfect products.

The only good thing is that they can't get crap from a turnip.

I think your main contact should be with Dometic.  Two years ago at an
FMCA rally in Indio, a motorhome near us caught on fire because of a
leak in the cooling system of a Norcold refrigerator.  The hydrogen
gas escaping started a fire that spread to the wood around the
refrigerator compartment, and was burning the plastic roof vent when I
saw it.  My wife took photos of the fire, the fire department came
after it was out, and the motorhome owner called Norcold about their
fire.  The owner told Norcold that we had photos of the fire damaged
areas.  The motorhome and refrigerator were both out of warranty, but
Norcold picked up all the costs of repairing the motorhome, replacing
the refrigerator with a new one, and removing all the smoke damage and
smell.  Dometic does NOT want to do a recall on any of their
refrigerators.  I'll bet that they will want your fire to "go away" as
quickly as Norcold did.
