Has anyone ever replaced a rubber roof?  I have a 25' 5th wheel
and some of the roof is rotted away underneath the rubber, has to be
replaced.  If I take up the rubber to replace the roofing, will I have
to replace the rubber roof as well????

Why don't you just let me sell you an 02 Holiday Rambler at about the
half the cost of an 05 model with a pristine roof. You won't have to
fool with fixing it.

Hi,
If the roof is rotted under the rubber does that mean the rubber roof
top has holes in it?  Remember to find the leak :)

If you know how much of the roof you have to get to do your repair,
you can just cut out the rubber roof in that area and then patch over
it.

You can buy the rubber roof material in any size and use it as a
patch. Glue and seam sealer products are available.  Look here under
roofing EPDM for more information.   http://www.dicor.com/

For smaller areas Camping World, Campers Choice and others sell a
patch kit.   It just depends if it's cost effective to just patch it
or replace the whole thing.

Take care and Happy Campin...

Likely yes.  The membrane is glued down with a special glue, and I
doubt you'd be able to get it off in one piece anyway.

Tom, I had a similar issue with an alumium roof that was in 4-foot
sections. It had leaked at the seams and there was rot. After removing
the entire aluminum roof and changing the rotted areas, I had a
1-piece aluminum roof installed. When you have a rubber roof, you have
to have plywood underneath it, but you don't need plywood under an
aluminum roof (other than the smallsection where the airconditioner
sits). By first removing the drip rails on both sides, the aluminum
was unrolled and bent down over the exterior sides (not under the
sides as it was originally built. After trimming, the drip rails (and
awning rail) was reinstalled. The advantage here is that youo don't
have to caulk the roof seams aloing the sides. Make sure when you make
the crimped connections at the front and the back that you allow far
more than the original 1/2-inch -- in my case, we allowed for a 3-inch
folded overlap. I've never had a leak since.

If there was a leak, it may also have penetrated into the roof
insulation. If this is the case, it has to be throuoghly dried out
(and possibly changed - I changed mine for 5-inch roxul plus batts).

Did you do this job yourself, or have it done.  Where did you get the
alumium roofing?
