I just got back from an initial shake down run on my "new" (to me) RV. I had
a great time and I'm becomming my more confident in my driving skills. (Read
first motorhome, but I had an extended cab full size bed dually diesel prior
to this and had pulled a pop-up with it (don't laugh).

I had a great time and plan to enjoy it more in the comming weeks. I also
discovered that some gas stations will shut off the pump at $50 when
filling, even with a card. Also, that I thought I had all the item I needed
to cook, well I forgot cookie sheets for the oven... I improvised using a
12" cast iron fry pan to make some french fries in the oven. Worked well...

I took my parents who are retired on this little road trip and they also
seemed to enjoy themselves.

I discovered that I wll need a ladder or a step stool to get into or I
should say get out of the over head bunk....
There is a 4X4" step plate but it is not great for getting out of.

I want to buy a step ladder, I looked at an RV type (over the internet) but
I'm leaning towards a better (IA rating) Stepladder. Any thoughts. I thought
of building a Oak or maple on but figured the cost of materials V.S.
strenghth of an aluminum ladder, the monies would be better spent. Any
thoughts?

TIA
Ed

HI Ed,

Take a look at the Telesteps stepladder.  It is the neatest thing and
very compact when telescoped down...

I saw these when I went to Home Depot, they are about 2X the cost of a
regular/folding stepladder(about $180). Only problem is it looks like it
would be a straight climb V.S. an angled one.

I'm leaning towards a Werner 13', which folds down into a 3.5' X 12-16"
package. It isn't small but it is rated for 300# and it can be setup into a
3.5' step ladder position and allow me to access the roof (besides the scary
rear ladder on the RV without rails on the top. Retails for about $100.

I have to try a 2-step 1A rated  2-3" folded stool first, (my parents have
one they use in the kitchen) this might be a good alternative and it runs
about $50. I'm not sure if 24" will be high enough to access the bunk or
not...

Ed,

I checked Home Depot. They do not carry Telesteps but a copy of it and
only in the regular ladder.  I have a Telestep 12.5 foot ladder and am
planning to get the 6.5 foot step ladder.  Check out this web site.
They have a more complete description of the product.

Hi Hunter,

From what I see on the web site, the one they are selling is a copy of
the Telesteps.  Telesteps is made in either Sweden or Switzerland.
The copy is cheaper and they do not have the step ladder, at lest no
yet...

Step ladder?

Not sure what you mean, the more I look at that one the more I think
it's the one I have.

I couldn't be happier with it.

Hi Hunter,

A step ladder has an "A" shape and is self standing whereas the
regular ladder you have to rest against the side of your trailer or
whatever.  Take another look at this site
http://www.rewci.com/tellad.html  and scroll down towards the bottom.
They have two step ladders. one 5.5' and one 6.5'.  A neighbor in AZ
had one and it is much more handier than the straight ladder.

Hi George,

Okay I see what you mean.  I don't need that because my trailer is so
short.... unlike your bus.  All I ever need it for is to get on the
roof to clean, caulk  or make repairs.

I can wash the trailer standing on the ground with just a bush on a
stick.  I can reach all the windows standing on tippie toes.

My only place to store it is in the bed of the truck so the thinner
the better.

That said, I've seen one ladder that folds up to a long narrow column.

They sell that one at CW I think.
