We're planning our summer vacation. We'll spend a few days at Chippokes to
visit Williamsburg and other attractions in the area (and Chippokes itself),
then travel west to the mountains for 6 or 7 days. Hungry Mother and Douthat
both look attractive, for what we like in state parks.

Can anyone offer information or opinions? If opinion, please provide a
little rationale for what makes it more or less attractive to you and your
family. That allows me to interpret your opinion with respect to what our
family likes to see and do.

Thanks in advance for your time and insight.

Never been to Hungry Mother.  We stayed at Douthat for a weekend several
years ago.  Very nice park.  The sites were well graveled.  Water and
electric only with a dump station.  Large lake stocked with trout.  Can rent
boats with electric motors and must pay to fish.

Thanks for the reply. From the lack of response, I'm guessing nobody has
ever been to Hungry Mother, and you're the only person that has been to
Douthat.

My son stopped at Hungry Mother once.  Claimed that the road in
was somewhat difficult.  He was car/tent camping.

We went that way in our 26' RV towing a Saturn once and stayed
at the private campground before you get to Hungry Mother.  Nice
place, flat, trees, pool...  We opted not to go further. We
stayed only one night on our way north.  The road into that
campground has some hills and turns that are steep and sharp,
but not awful.

Try Googling Hungry Mother.

Before You go to Williamsburg, brush up on American history. It will make it
allot easer to understand
what you are seeing.

A friend of mine went there and took the ghost tour in the evening, clamed
it was the highlight of the trip.
