I live in my RV year round. My battery charger has died. Can I use any
battery charger that does deep cycle and has a maintain mode or do I need
some kinda special charger.

rob, if you mean can you use any battery charger to manually charge
your batteries...sure.  i do it all the time.  when i pull the
batteries out of the MH at the end of the season i charge 'em up once
a month.  but if you want your batteries to charge while plugged in to
shore power then you'll need to install an automatic charger.

A "battery charger" in an RV is called a "converter".

A standard battery charger doesn't have the capacity to produce enough
power for typical RV needs; nor does it produce clean enough power for
RV applications.

What you really need is a converter, such as the 55 amp Parallax unit
sold by Camping World under catalogue #14839 for $190. It not only
supplies clean DC power, but enough amperage to look after day-to-day RV
needs under continuous RV usage conditions.

Yes, you can.   I replaced a converter in one of our rv's with a
charger.   The only caution:  unlike the typical rv "converter", the
charger will not support continuous drains in excess of charging
capacity.
