Hi there,
(this is a bit long, but I really appreciate your comments!)
We have purchased a pop-up from a local dealer. It is a 2003 Palomino that
was previously used as their rental model. It is in excellent shape;
however on inspection day we arrived to take it home and unfortunately there
had been a mishap.
The guy was trying to open the camper for our inspection and he cranked and
cranked and it wouldn't go up. He cranked it as hard as he could and doing
this, the A-Frame was bent and the back section of the frame protruded up
(but not through) the floor. The lift system was not harmed (aircraft
wire). Unfortunatley he forgot to unhook a latch in the back corner.
They have agreed to completely repair anything that was affected by this
which includes replacing the floor and fixing the frame. They have ordered
the parts and are doing the work themselves. They are a large reputable
company from what I've heard.
My questions are:
- Do you think the camper's stability is in jeopardy?
- When putting it up and down, do you believe that we'll have trouble with
it being square? (i.e. cover not coming down and fitting snuggly, etc).
- Do you think we should get money back from the purchase price?
- Will they make money off of this because its warranty work?
- What questions do you think I should ask when dealing with the vendor on
this?
Thanks very much!

Make sure it Easily goes up and down...but if it is a good deal I wouldn't
be scared of it.

Hi,
What do you mean by A Frame. The trailer frame? If they managed to
bend the trailer frame somehow I wouldn't buy it! If you are talking
about bending the frame of the camper lift mechanism they should be
able to straighten it out. If so before you take it make sure
everything goes up and down and seals properly and that all damage
that was done was fixed to *your* satisfaction. I would also ask for
some kind of warranty to cover anything they broke and then replaced
or fixed.
It's a 2003 model so it probably doesn't have any warranty on it from
the manufacturer. Even if it does I don't see how the dealer can fix
it under warranty. I doubt any manufacturers warranty includes any
provisions for people who don't know how to put the RV up damaging it.
Besides it was one of his own people. He will probably have to eat
the cost of the repairs. One good reason to ask for a warranty on
their work since they might have done it as fast and as cheaply as
possible.
Take care and Happy Campin...

I'd skip it, MONEY BACK! Ther frame is bent this only means more problems
for you in the future! They pay now, but you'll pay all through ownership...
I.E. bent frame extra wear and tear on tires. A professional should have
know that it was taking way to mch force to get the top up.
