Hi all,
I am brand new to the group.
Some buddies on the Studebaker group where I'm a regular suggested that I
hang out here a while and learn.
I THINK I want to get into RV'ing, but I know just enough about it to be
dangerous, I'm sure.
Where should a complete novice begin?

Ya, and when you leave, the average IQ goes up 8%.

hi Dave,
I suggest you rent an RV, or borrow one if possible, and actually go
RVing.
Stay in a campground.
It really is a fun thing to do, but not for everyone.

but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...holy sh.t...what a ride!"

Just do it. Rent an RV. Shop around, and find a used unit, either a travel
trailer or motorhome. Ease into it and see if you like it.
It's like roller skating. You can talk and talk and talk about it, but you
just gotta do it to get the hang of it and see if you like it.

I'd take in a couple of rv shows, visit some local
campgrounds during the busy season and just walk around
observing. Be open for conversation with those who extend
greetings. Visit some dealers in the area, walk around
looking at the units they have on hand and strike up
conversations with other lookers. Chances are, when you
reveal you are a "novice", you'll get lots of advice, some
good, some bad. Big thing though is you'll glean some
experience from those who are willing to talk.

Say HD Where in NY are you?
I would like to do all the things you suggest, but am in NW NJ and haven't a
clue where to go (Hopefully within a 2 hour drive of I80 and I287 intersection)

I'm in central New York. Look in the phone book for
recreational dealers. Start there. When at the dealers, ask
if they know when and where the rv shows are. Pick up a copy
of Woodhall's, it'll have rv parks listed. If you have
M'soft Streets and Trips, you can do a search for
campgrounds in your area. When you click on the link, the
name and phone number will pop up.
