Yep, I'm on the road aboard my Rexhall 32 Vision, having left home in
California last Sunday.

I'm in Gulfport Ms. tonight, the - uh - 6th night of this (maybe) once
in a lifetime trip.

The plan is to get to Florida, head north to Maine, then head towards
home across the northern states. I'm trying to hit as many states as
possible. (Gotta fill up that little USA map thingy on the back of the
coach!)

I'm "blogging" this trip as well as posting photos most days on my RV
homepage:
http://groups.msn.com/CoachpotatosRVHomepage/grandamericanloop1.msnw

I try to drop the jacks at a Flying J each night so that I can access
the 'net on their very fine Wifi service.

Check out my little adventure if you wish, and email if you take the
notion. I'd be happy to hear from anyone.

The link doesn't work for me.

When you say last Sunday, do you mean the 15th of May, or the 8th of May?

If the 15th, is your goal to set a speed record as well. :-)

Hmmm, Bob I tried the link and it worked for me. Just click on the tag
link to my fishing homepage and you can link to the RV site there very
easily.

I checked your homepage out. Very well done. Nice photos, lovely wife
and nice motorhome. Great toy box!

Yep, I left the 15th. I'm averaging a bit under 400 miles a day. For
me, it's the driving, not so much the stopping that I really enjoy.
Especially if wifey isn't along. If I set a record, do I get a trophy
or - ?

At that rate you should be finished in another 12 days or so.  You
should have went for the Great American Car race rather then the RV :)

Different strokes... I guess.  Drive carefully.

Take care and Happy Travels...

His link finally worked for me. Must have been a problem at DirecWay.

It makes me wonder. I traveled 700 miles less than he did in 4 times the
days. I'm either doing something very wrong or very right. The latter I
think. :-)

Took us 20 days to travel from Vicksburg to Winona, MN.

You to can travel 400 miles per day, all you need is the occasional part
time job washing dishes to supplement you travel budget that is if you
qualify for the position.         Bob who wonders why anybody would suffer
penis envy over distance covered.

I'll be...! I'm having a great time seeing the country I've never seen
before and enjoying the blogging as well. And the home-bound crowd
informs me that I'm not really having any fun. How was I to know?!

Just landed at Flying J in Quincey, Fl. for the night. Had to park with
the big rigs here as the Wifi doesn't seem to get to the RV lot in
front. They're selling gas here at $1.95 - the cheapest for miles
around - and the zoo out front at the pumps is the pits, anyway. This
is the first time I've parked with the big rigs at a truck stop (since
I drove 'em 30 years ago) and I don't know how they're gonna like an RV
next to their big strap 18 wheelers. They'll likely ignore me. This
being a Saturday night, the parking is light in this back lot.

I'll try to not have such a good time driving long since y'all have
taught me that long driving days aren't fun. Back in my driving days
400 miles was considered a short day! Those of you sitting at home
thinking I'm ruining my big trip - have patience. I only did 312 miles
today so I'm getting better!

Hi,
The reason you are getting comments about your RV'ing style is
because *most* people buy RV's to see the sights, slow down and enjoy
life.  You are seeing the country but only what you can see from the
interstate or road you are traveling on, on that particular day.
There is A LOT more to see then just what's along the highways.  You
can spend days or even weeks at some of the national parks sight
seeing.  You can spend days or weeks in different parts of the
country.  The Outer Banks area is one place you are going to drive by,
that's worth a day or two just sitting on the beach.  You said you are
going up to Maine, Arcadia National Park is one of the nicest parks in
the east you will not see it unless you detour off the I-95 and spend
a few days, lazing around the park or spending an evening in Bar
Harbor or on top of Cadillac Mountain watching the sun come up or set.

A lot of folks who full time, travel short distances and then tour
around the area they stop at.  Some just don't like the traveling part
and so only travel short distances per day period.  Some make bee
lines to an area and then spend days or weeks traveling around that
area.  You seem to be traveling just for the sake of driving, which is
fine if that's what you want to do.  It's just a little different then
what most RV'ers consider RV'ing.

I'm the drive to a destination and then tour around for a week or
longer type, most of the time, but we usually are not in any hurry to
get to where we are going, unless we have definite reservations.  We
often stop and stay a day or two in an area just to see what's there.
Like I said it's whatever floats your boat.  That's one of the
attractive things about RV'ing you can do what you want to do.

Take care and Happy Travels...

Hey it's your trip and if you're having fun that's all that counts. I
wouldn't do it that way, but that's me.

As far as home bound, I'm not. I'm a full time RV'r. I've put over 8000
miles on the rig since Sept of last year. Been in OR, WA, CA, ID, NV, AZ,
TX, LA, MS, MO, IL, IA, MN and WI.

I travel slow and stop often. We've visited a lot of local things in several
towns. Museums, Vicksburg Battlefield, driven the Great River Road from
Vicksburg to Red Wing, MN.

When I posted my first reply to you on the 20th I was sitting in a really
great park on the banks of the Mississippi River in Winona, MN. Today I'm at
my daughters in Wisconsin. By sometime in August I'll be in Maine, and by
November in Florida. Sitting at home. I think not. :-)

Hey Bob,

Nope, you're certainly not sitting at home. Didn't mean to include you
or any others that are out seeing the country.

I'd be in a bigger coach with the wife if she was so inclined. She's
not. She's a good sport about shorter trips. There's no way she'd enjoy
this trip.

I'm loving it. I had only two things I wanted to do for sure this trip.
Cross lake Pontchairtrain in Louisiana and see my cousin in Georgia. I
did #1 a couple of days ago and will do #2 today.

Rich, yep, Different strokes for different folks. In the past I've been
on the road with friends in our coaches and while they're laid back and
enjoying the park or whatever, I'm chomping at the bit wanting to hit
the road. For me it's the road and the driving and the view.

Jon, when the RV parks charge $30 a night I don't consider the wifi
free. I have a month of Flying J Wifi for $25. That's a good deal. And
it's fast. And believe me, Flying J doesn't worry about my jacks.
Everything and anything lands on their lots and they take it all in
stride. They're built for it. But I think last night was the first and
last time I'll park with the big boyz - I slept fine with my white
sound machine running all night, but the endless reefer and idle noise
and the comings and goings all night is not so pleasant.

Have a good day all.

Well, I'm sure Flying J would frown on *CAMPING* on their premises for an
extended stay.  (That IS where he said he likes to "drop the jacks" each night
for the free stay and wi-fi.)

I'd prefer YOUR pace any day.

Whew! Last two nights I was off the 'net but am now at a Flying J in
Wytheville, VA where I think I'm gonna spend the night after just a
couple hundred miles today. By the time I got done with the posting
updates, I'm not in the mood to drive in the wind and rain we've been
getting here.

ok, so far, a good page, but clicking 'go to page 2'  gets MSN
requiring your user name and password, so that may take a little
adjusting..

The big trip is complete, I got home to California yesterday. It was 8600
miles, 38 states and 26 days.

And yes, it was too fast paced. But without wifey along, my main drive was
to drive. But I did take one day off to fish with an old high school buddy
in Oregon on Tuesday.

Maybe next time she'll be along, but it won't be an 8600 mile trip!

No trophy. We all do what we want to do. We've been averaging less than 100
miles per day of travel.

Flying J might not like you using the jacks, they can really divot the
asphault. If you're on concrete, then no problem.

Lots of camp grounds have wireless, sometimes for free. Even more have
internet.
