6v. Battery Question Post Script

I got the two batteries, and changed them out.  Hooked up the negative to
where the negative was on the other 12v. battery.  Hooked up the positive
where the positive was.  Put the jumper on.  Strong arc.  The jumper got
hot.

Took a tester, and it showed 12.4 volts.

Unplugged shore power.

Hooked up batteries again, and slide worked automatically with no being able
to stop it.  Let it run its course.

Now nothing works.  No lights, no pump, no nothing.

Don't understand it.  What did I do wrong?  It all looks so simple to me.
You replace the two batteries, hook them in series, +-+-, and what else is
there to do?

I don't get it.

Help.

You may have connected them wrong.  RE-reading your post, however, I'm not
sure...

Two 6VDC batteries, connected in series to produce 12VDC have a jumper running
from the negative of one battery to the POSITIVE of the other.

If you did that, the only thing I can imagine is that you REVERSED the
connections going to the converter.

Now, with NOTHING working, I suspect blown fuses.

Good luck.

Thinking ahead, when I took the 12v. batteries out, I took a MarksALot and
wrote the polarity on the bottom of the tray.  Replaced them the same way.

Only worked on it for a bit this afternoonbefore quitting in frustration.
Will do some checking and rechecking tomorrow, and using a tester.  I had to
quit working on it to go help SIL put in a new garage door opener.

Five hours later ............................we're done.  An interesting
day...................

Hi Steve

You know since so many people have digital cameras today they should
take a digital picture of whatever they are going to work on then they
have a reference point when they do the work or replacement.  I do this
on most of the jobs I do at the house or the MH.  Especially when
I replaced anything with wiring.  I am always sure I can remember but
you know how that works out. (grin)  So far it has been a great help.

Well, I just went out and looked at the situation fresh.  I noticed that the
red cable was on the negative, and the black was on the positive.

DOH!

How in the world do we ever live to be so old?

When I think of some of the absolutely bonehead things I have done and
gotten away with them, I cringe.

But, then, there have been friends, family, and associates who have had the,
"Hey, hold my beer and watch this" experiences, and not fared as well.

I can't believe I did that.  Lucky the two fuses in the converter blew.

Sometimes I scare myself.

Hey Steve

At least it was a simple thing, but that is why I take pictures, I
always think I will remember but when I get out there sometimes I just
plain forgot.  Those Digital Cameras sure can make a difference in doing
a lot of jobs.  Even when I get some areas hard to access I use the
camera and flash and I get a decent idea of what I am looking at.  I
like the digital camera as it has come in hand so many times.  Glad it
turned out OK for you.  Hey it all comes with age, remember the old
axiom "Wisdom comes with age" which means I made those mistakes and
learned from them (grin).....
