Ford Trannies

We just had a tranny replaced on our Newmar.  It has a 460 motor.  It has
the fourspeed overdrive tranny.  It has 950 miles on it.

Yesterday, on our way to nowhere, it crapped out, and blew fluid all under
the coach.  I thought it was on fire there was so much smoke.  Got pulled
off, and saw it was just fluid on the pipes, but still could have been a
fire.

The tranny is under a warranty with free replacement, parts and labor.  It
is just a hassle to get ready and to, and make it ten miles.  And that with
a tranny that has only 950 miles on it.

What is your experience with Ford trannies?  If I put in a bitch to Ford, do
you think if would do any good?

I believe your problem this time was most likely a loose hose
connection...it most likely caused no damage.

What year is your Newmar? I thought Ford discontinued the 460 some years
back. 950 miles doesn't mean much if your vehicle has been sitting for
years. Lack of use is probably harder on seals than high mileage.

Why didn't this loose hose come off or leak before?

A 1996

Last trip was two months ago.  Did you read the part where I said "recently"
we had the tranny replaced?  Like nine months ago.

What Buzz was saying is that the hose did leak - all over the underside of
your mh but no damage was caused to the tranny itself (unless you drove it
after all the fluid was gone) which I doubt.
