Depends on where in Baja. I've drunk lots of water in Baja and it's
never bothered me.  What does amaze me is to see people buy bottled
water and soft drinks and then get a glass of ice to pour the drinks
over. :-)  So much for not drinking the water!!

who has been plenty of places in the USA he wouldn't drink the water

All too true (both comments)!
BTW  Ability to handle the water depends on your body.

kathleen,
Have you done any searching into travel in Mexico?   It seems every
once in a while I read or see a story about retirees in Mexico enjoying
themselves and I too am interested in what good a trip could bring.
Both my wife and I would love to see some of the winter song bird
Hot Spots but perhaps these are the areas that are less than safe to
travel alone?

Where are you planning to go?  What type of a trip are you planning?

Jon

I see no mention of safety and insurance. If you get in a car
accident, you could be jailed until they determine who's at fault.
There are bandits and you may have to bribe the police. I think you
have to be wise about where you camp.

I've been there once and had a good time. My mother found it
depressing because there are starving dogs. I fed a starving dog some
milk. One american said I shouldn't feed them, but I found it hard not
to show some compassion.

There is some good surfing down there.
