My wife and I will rent an RV in the 22' to 25' (max) size next June for one
month. We would like to drive the RV on Beartooth Highway which is on the
Wyoming/Montana border. Do you think we would have any trouble on this road
with a smallish RV? We rented a 22' RV this past spring for a trial run and
it seemed to have plenty of power but that was at or near sea level on the
east coast.

TIA.

I didn't have any trouble with my 21' truck.  Go for it, it's
beautiful.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well-preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "...holy sh.t...what a ride!"

By the time you get there, you will have many miles of experience.  Roads
are roads, and even those in western and mountain states pretty much are
designed for semi truck travel.  If those guys have room, and can handle it,
you shouldn't have any problem.

DO watch out for livestock and wildlife.

Beartooth Highway is closed due to mudslides.  Check the Montana
Highway Department website for more information.  They have lots of
photos of the damage.

You need to make that statement that it is closed to through traffic.  You
can go up and over the pass from Cooke City, MT.  You go from MT into WY and
over the top of Beartooth Pass and on north to the MT-WY state line where
you have to turn around and go back toward Cooke City.

An alternate route for through traffic would be to take the highway from Red
Lodge, MT toward Cody, WY and then take the Chief Joseph Highway to the
south end of the Beartooth Highway and down to Cooke City, MT.  There is 5
miles of road construction just outside of Cooke City that may cause a 15-20
minute delay while you wait for a pilot car.
