voltage drop problems Leighton TT.

Hi to all.  I have a 2001 Leighton TT that is 30 ft.  I have tryed to
run a 500 watt power converter for the T.V. and Sat. dish.  The
converter is difficult to get on line and sez insufficient battery
voltage and kicks off.  This is with fully charged batteries.  i am
running 2 T125 deep cycle 6 volt batteries wired in series, so I should
have more than enough capacity.

During the night w/out the power converter, I notice that when the
water pump cycles on, or the heater blower kicks on, the lights dim
down.  I think that the culprit is voltage drop due to the small wires
that the Skyline mfg installs from the battery back to the fuse panel.
The wires appear to be about 12 - 14 awg at the largest.  What I am
thinking about doing is running 8 or 10 gage wire from the battery to
the fuse panel.  That should drop the volt drop way down.  I was
wondering if any body else out there has a similar problem w/ their
skyline tt.  If so, have they ever tryed to rewire the trailer as I am
considering.  If so, how big a job was it.  How did you feed the wires
through the walls, and what gage wire did you rewire with.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Nearly impossible to troubleshoot by usenet, but to begin with, its an
_inverter_, not a "power converter".

You might be right about inadequate wire size but start with making
sure you have solid connections at the battery & panel.  If that
doesn't cure the problem try a jumper cable from battery to inverter.
The look for a bad ground.   Don't even think about trying to rewire
the whole trailer - just find the defect.

Two things to try:

First, try wiring the inverter directly to the battery and see if you
get the same problem.  If you do then the trailer wiring is not the issue.

Second.  I have an inverter that I use to run my laptop in the cab of
the truck while driving so I can use Delorme Street Atlas interfaced to
my GPS.  Anyway, when I first tried to run the laptop I had the same
problem that you describe.  I called the tech support for the inverter
and he suggested that I use an adapter to go from three prong to two
prong where I plug the laptop into the inverter.  I know it sounds
wierd, but it worked.  So, you might try that.
