Dear Camper:
Thank you for your recent email regarding Kampgrounds of America
Incorporated's position regarding overnight stays by recreational vehicles
in parking lots such as Wal Mart stores. The topic has received much
attention on the Internet, and some of that information has been misleading.
Kampgrounds of America Incorporated takes the very same position on the
parking lot issue as the Wal Mart Corporation has stated over the years. We
both believe that it is a matter best handled at the local level, taking
into account local laws and ordinances. Kampgrounds of America Incorporated
has no company policy in place that in any way encourages any actions to bar
overnight stays in parking lots at any locations.
Due to our position as the leading brand in the commercial camping industry,
it's inevitable that our name would be attached to the debate whenever the
issue of overnight stays in parking lots is raised, even though we take no
official position on the issue.
Kampgrounds of America Incorporated, or course, highly values all campers,
including those who occasionally stay overnight in parking lots such as Wal
Mart Stores. In fact, our studies show that approximately 20 percent of our
own KOA campers stay overnight in a parking lot at least once a year. We
understand that a large percentage of parking lot campers are our campers,
too, and that is why we take no corporate policy position on parking lot
camping.
It's also important for you to know that, for the entire 43-year history of
Kampgrounds of America, we have been a system of independently owned and
operated campgrounds. That means our campgrounds are owned by independent,
entrepreneurial local business owners who make their own decisions regarding
their campground business operation.
Our system prides itself on delivering a high quality camping experience.
We feel that our KOA Kampgrounds offer the very best in safe, clean, fun and
affordable family camping, and that campers seeking those services will
continue to stay with us during their travels.
Thanks again for contacting us. We do value your input.

People too lazy, too belligerent, or too stupid to figure out how to
clip a quote in a response. All newsgroups have them.
