It's probably not an RV type trailer, it looks more like a "house" trailer that was being made around that time. They were about as big as what is currently used as an RV.

Only they hardly traveled they were so heavy.

So this sounds good!
omnivore_ink@yahoo.com - 23 Aug 2005 06:36 GMT Hi, all
I've put 3 different shots of this trailer onto a webpage for anyone interested to take a look at.
The side view I already gave a link to, a view of the front of it with windows, and a view of the damaged 'other' side!
http://omnivoreink.com/TheThunderChild/IDPhotos/IDneeded.html
is the URL.
Again, thanks for any and all help on this.
RAM^3 - 23 Aug 2005 06:41 GMT > Hi, all > [quoted text clipped - 9 lines] > > Again, thanks for any and all help on this. Aha! You're trying to identify the trailer used in the movie "Them"!
It's quite possible that it's strictly a prop built expressly for the film.
BTW, ISTM that the prowl car is either a '53 or '54 Mercury.
Frank Tabor - 23 Aug 2005 16:11 GMT >> Hi, all >> [quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > >BTW, ISTM that the prowl car is either a '53 or '54 Mercury. I think it's a Ford, for a couple of reasons, one being that the Ford came in a Police package, but the Mercury didn't. Had the Interceptor motor and Police package. Also look at the silhouette of the Mercury rear end shown here, http://images.google.com/images?q=54+mercury&btnG=Search&svnum=10&hs=8qE&hl=en&l r=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial third and fourth pictures, the tail light is smooth and sloped to the bumper. This shows the rear tail light lenses for the Mercury, http://images.google.com/images?q=54+mercury&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a &rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&start=40&sa=N Ford had a round light. http://images.google.com/images?q=54+ford&svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rl s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&start=40&sa=N
I blew up the picture with Whitmore in it and I can't tell what it is. It's not a water heater. It has perforated metal around it. It may be some type of oil stove or heater.

The object is probably just a prop created for the shot.
omnivore_ink@yahoo.com - 23 Aug 2005 20:53 GMT >>One is a Mercury and the police car I think is a Ford, but with out being able to see the front grill I cant tell what year it is.
I didn't realize that it was the front grill of a car which makes it easier to identify as opposed to a side view. Thanks! I'll see if I can't screensnap some of them and post - if you guys aren't tired of this by now!
Once again thanks to all who are taking the trouble to look at this and help me identify them. Yes, I'm doing it for an article on Them, and "the way life was in the 1950s."
Hunter - 24 Aug 2005 01:55 GMT > Yes, I'm doing it for an article on Them, and >"the way life was in the 1950s." Here's something for your article. That movie scared me to death as a little girl, the only thing scarier was Psycho that came out a few years later.
Actually, I think Them might have been even scarier than Psycho.
Years later, I heard music like they played in Them and it scared me again.

Anyway, here's some more pics of the cars. I tried to get the "grills".

I appreciate that now I'm moving away from trailers which is what your expertise here is, but since some of you seem to know about cars, thought I'd give it a try.
As always, I appreciate very much your taking the time to look at these and identify them for me.
And if these don't help, I'm out of options, and will go with previous suggestions.
Thanks!

The NM police car is a 1953 Ford Customline Fordor sedan.
I think the one in LA is the same model with different paint.
The Mercury I believe is a Monterey wagon.
The best place to check is with Hemming Motor News....

Hope that helps.

You said 52 then posted a picture of a 53. Besides the 52 was the last year of the round body, 49-52. 53 was a major body style change.

You're right about my mistake but not the model change year. 1952 was the year of change. '49, '50 and '51 had the same bodies. The '52 also was the first year of the overhead six. The previous ones were flatheads. The flathead V8 stuck around till '54 when the overhead valve engine took its place. Both Merc and Ford were flatheads till '54 but Lincoln switched in '52. I had two '50's and a '51 Ford. Also had a '50 and a '51 Baby Lincoln. HD in NY

Note the rounded style. Here is another, but it's from England so it may be off a year there.
I'm wondering if the body style change was made mid year. I've found several more labeled 52 with the 51 body style.

Both Chevy and Plymouth still had their '49 body styles, so Ford trumped them on styling change. Car makers weren't into the 1/2 year stuff then so much.
That blue Ford tudor is a '50. Note the push button door handles. The '49 had pull out handles. The '50 and '51 had push button. On the next page the Ford labeled '52 is a '51. I suppose it's possible export cars could have been badged as '52's but this would be a fudge on the export part.
The English and French Fords were completely different from ours. Some of them show up on the Google images. Regardless, it's fun to think back to those years and the "fun" of keeping junkers on the road <g>. HD in NY

That is correct, it is laying down on it's side. We had one in our travel trailer in 1952. It was a Glider about 29' long, pulled with a standard 51 Chev pickup. Some one earlier said this thing on the floor was an air conditioner, didn't have them back then for travel trailers, only had water coolers.

At this time in life all that remains is left overs, some can be cherished as good others bad, but the only definite is that they are all that remains, main course is over.

This thing is a oil or kerosene heater laying on it's side, it has a grill around it that you can see. The hole in the top is actually the door that you light the fire in. These were the heating stoves in those days in trailers. This I am Positive of.
The car in the front of the trailer and the police car are not the same, One is a Mercury and the police car I think is a Ford, but with out being able to see the front grill I cant tell what year it is.

OK- I asked my wife (who was RVing during that period), and she said the trailer looks like either a Kit or a Pathfinder- most likely Kit. The item on the floor, looks like an old, old style air conditioner (!?)- which sat on the floor, were noisy as all get out.
Both guesses, but educated ones ;).
