Gail and John MCDONALD - 29 Aug 2005 18:47 GMT Can anyone tell me what newer model vehicles can be towed behind MH with all four wheels down (no tow dolly) without having to modify the drive shaft or transmission. Currently I have a1996 Saturn wagon with auto transmission that requires no special modifaction to tow, just put in nutrual, ingnition switch to assc, and go. Any help is really appreciated. Thank You John McDonald

It's a list of vehicles that Remco has kits for.
You can try on the FMCA's web site or Motor Home Magazine's web site for more up to date lists of vehicles that can be towed 4 wheels down without any modifications. Some of them are, Honda CR-V's and most other Honda models, some Saturns', certain models of Chevy's with certain model transmissions, most Jeeps and some Dodges. Many standard shift 2 wheel drive cars and trucks can also be towed, but not all. Best to check with the vehicles manufacturer.
Take care and Happy Campin...

FWIW, most of the USPS Jeeps are 2WD.

Bad Apple - 31 Aug 2005 17:25 GMT It's shockingly true but yes not all Jeeps are 4WD.
I thought they all were until I rode in a coworkers early Cherokee.

The short wheelbase of the Jeep Wrangler [and CJ-series] gives them wonderful agility in parking lots and the high driving position gives a good view of traffic ahead when you're stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. The fact that it's a "convertible" means that the driver can get a tan while looking adventurous.
This way the wannabe gets a "cute" convertible to run around in without the hassles of a 4WD. After all, the wannabe would never *dream* of taking it out in bad weather or off-road: it might get *dirty*! [The wannabe wouldn't want to even *think* about having to go to all that trouble to put the top up - and the heater's not that great, anyway.]
Bad Apple - 31 Aug 2005 20:38 GMT When I was buying my Nissan truck I found out that they (and Toyota) have a package called a PreRunner.
All the looks of a 4WD (high stance, big tires, etc) but no 4wd.
Thankfully I did research because I just shmuckly assumed it was a 4wd.
Please don't anyone tell me that the Hummer H1 comes in RWD version too. That will spoil the image completely - sigh.

OK. (I don't think it does.)
But, I am compelled to risk spoiling your image by pointing out that the Hummer H1 is not even remotely related to the Humvee. Now THERE's a mega-testosterone statement if there ever was one.

It was pretty close to the original. H2 downsized it some and wasn't as wide. The H3 is on the Avalanche frame. Nearly the same as the CK1500 pickup.

Bad Apple - 01 Sep 2005 09:00 GMT One of these days after the last of the tax deductibles have gone off to college then I will go seek my Lambo LM002.
If ever there was a testosterone 4WD that beast is it.
In the meantime Yellow Fever, my "mini Hummer", will have to do:

I can't remember the H1. Was there one? Does it share the same, mid-engine and independent drive for each wheel as the Humvee?
Just curious.

Does it share the same, mid-engine >and independent drive for each wheel as the Humvee? H1 was an identical version to the military one. Arnold Swartzenager got the first one off the assembly line. Lots of them were made and sold to the Forest Service and a lot were bought for back country rescue and fire services. Plus a lot were sold to just civilians. There may have been a few changes from the military design, but few.
Trouble is that they were too wide and a lot of folks were intimidated by its width and were afraid to drive it. Hence the H2 which is a slightly scaled down version.

Steve - 02 Sep 2005 00:34 GMT The H1 was produced on the same line as the military version, the H2 is a modified Suburban, and the H3 is a Chevy Colorado without the usefulness of a pickup.
