My wife and I have just purchased our first RV, a 02 Allegro 31DA.  It does
not have a backup camera on it now, and I want to add one.

I don't need anything fancy, and found the following:
http://tinyurl.com/c9gbu  Can anyone comment on this setup?  I'm thinking of
adding the motorized tilting option as well.

Any info/opinions are appreciated.

I can't comment on that system but, I may be able to suggest something which
will save you $200-$250 depending on if you want one or two cameras.

I wanted a backup camera but (at the time) $500+ was way to much to spend on
this. I bought a 1=Security camera from Wal-Mart with one camera for $50 It
is basically a 5" B&W monitor and a small about 3X2" rectangular box. You
can add another camera for $25 the monitor supports two cameras and can be
set on incremental switching up to 2 minutes.

NOTE: to use this monitor  you MUST mount it facing your rear view mirror
otherwise the image will not be reversed.

I use one camera and have had only one problem where my trailer with a canoe
on it came unhooked. It broke the plastic mount but the camera itself is
fine.

I believe the manufacture is called Homeland Security. It was located near
the photo processing/camera area in the store.

You can fix the reversed image by reversing the wires on the horizontal yoke
windings.

Thanks, I might try this.
You mean the solder points not rewinding the yoke? Right?

Yes. That's correct. I had to guess at which pair of wires to reverse. It
took me two tries to get it right.

You might take a look at www.rvcams.com .  I've got a system from them
in my class B  ('02 Chevy Roadtrek 190 Popular). I've had excellent
customer service and support form them.

It cures the blind spot below the back door windows.  It's very useful,
especially when parking on the street in town.

The one I've got cost about $335; 5.6" LCD monitor and image-reversed
color / IR low light camera in a weather-proof housing.   I made a
simple bracket to mount the monitor on top of the driver's sunvisor due
to limited dash space.  They provide a fine swivel mount for those with
more dash space, tho'.

Hi Bob...

I just installed one of these setups from this Ebay seller on my 30' class
c.

It works great! I hated not being able to see my boat (and all the stuff the
wife had packed in it) and this does the trick.. I paid like $150 +
shipping. It has buttons for day/night, regular or mirror image etc and even
volume..Came with plenty of cable. Took my son and I about 1 to 1-1/2 hours
to install.

A family member bought a camera  from Harbor Freight tools for $29
bucks and it
came with a suction cup mount that sticks to the back window.   It has
video out that plugs into his 9" portable 12vdc TV.

check out that solution

Trust me. You'll want color. I've used both color and B/W monitors on mine
and what a diff color makes. I made mine with an X10 camera with a pan/tilt
module mounted under it. I can see anything I'm towing, anything behind me,
and both sides of the back corners of the RV from the top to the bottom.

I can even see the hitch pin too. I had to do this once because because my
stupid cheapo Kmart hitch pin fail and threw my trailer into a guardrail in
KY. I didn't have another so I had to use a drill bit with vice grips on
both sides. I used the camera to make sure they stayed together until I got
to an autozone to get a new one. Could you believe that Camping World in
Bowling Green didn't have any?

I started out with http://www.x10.com/news/articles/1008_remains.htm and
then added the ninja pan/tilt myself. The ninja isn't waterproof so I used a
bulk blank CD cover to cover the ninja to protect it from rain.
