Anyone know what the scoop is on campground memberships selling for 495 US?
Is this too good to be true? I'm looking to start more extended trips and $8
a night would be nice.  But I thought memberships cost a great deal more
than the ads I have seen.

Is it just the membership that's $495?

If so, what are the annual "Maintenance Fees"? Is there an "escape clause"
that will allow you to resign?

The "Maintenance Fees" can skyrocket...

Hello Mike,

I'm like you, i wonder about the membership plans. We are still 6
years away from retiring, but I would be interested in hearing if any
of the good folks out there have joined any of the membership plans
and can report the good, bad, and ugly. Thanks...dave

It's not the type of park membership you are talking about but if you
haven't done so you should check into Passport America (
http://www.passportamerica.com/ ).  For my money it's the best deal on
the planet.

Jon

We paid $349 for ours. Annual dues are frozen at $39. At the FMCA rally
in Minot in August, I saw the same reseller selling the same memberships
for $299.

In our case, the park is a little place in Tennessee. As I understand
it, Tennessee allows parks to sell all the memberships they want,
unconstrained by the actual number of sites that they have. I have
talked to a number of other folks with memberships in this same park. We
all bought them simply for access to the $8/night Coast-to-Coast and RPI
networks. Our total home park, RPI, and C2C dues come to less than
$200/year.

We visited our home park once, only because we happened to be in the
area. We use C2C and RPI several weeks a year.

We will be staying in an RPI park for a week starting tomorrow and plan
to move to another one 190 miles down the road the week after that.

These memberships make sense for full-timers only, in my opinion. If I
were still working, I wouldn't want to restrict my precious vacation
time to 300-400 parks in the entire country.
