Will Sill - 19 Oct 2005 19:43 GMT We've reluctantly decided to consider selling our class B MH. This is a home-built rig, based on what was then a new '99 GMC Savana extended 3500 ("1-ton") van, sporting a pop-up top from Sortsmobile. It now has 85k miles, runs perfectly and averages about 15 mpg. Located at Tunkhannock PA and offered at $20k firm.
I don't do web pages, but for all the honest details including some pix, write me at will@epix.net with a vali email address.

Anyway, seems like a high price for a 99 Homemade camper. Was all the work done by professionals or did you do the work?

Small world huh? I have been camping and traveling alot this year. It is coming to a halt due to the weather tho. I have a small Class B/C or whatever they call it. It is big enough for my wife and I. I haven't used it to go to pool tournaments much. Maybe I'll use it more later.
What do you have? coming to the States soon? Hell, we could meet halfway and play pool too!
I still haven't got Ratchet to claim the book you wrote. I don't know what he is doing other than arguing with FL.
Let's go camping. Fla. sound good?

Hes nuts if he thinks hes selling it for that. Of course hes nuts anyway. Will did the work on the camper. So the answer to your 2nd question is no, not even close.

You might as well plan on keeping it. At $20k, I doubt that you will get any tire kickers. Kelly Blue book shows that your Savana is only worth $8k or less and I can't image that your improvements would be worth another $12k.

Price a '99 Class B for a comparison. Most in that year range will be much above $20,000 and will have a lot more miles. Will's unit is a well designed home built, without all the frills you see on professional conversions. He has had a popup roof installed, has put in a terlet (with holding tank), has an electric dump valve, a big battery bank complete with a healthy inverter, a 120v fridge, a microwave and hot plate (IIRC) for cooking. It would make a nice rig for someone who is less interested in tooling around in a fancy shell and wishing to blend in more when sleeping in parking lots. Hugh

Wills is not even close to a true class B. It doesn't even have a stove or city water hook up or air or heat. Its a Jack leg jerry rigged mess that is not worth $20K.

>Your comparing apples and oranges, it's not a Class B. It's a van that was >converted to work like one. A 120v fridge, microwave and hot plate, what's >that worth used $100 - $200. If your definition of a motorhome only allows for "factory" units, this one doesn't fit. But if you understand what features a class B motorhome provides, you wouldn't parade your ignorance.
But let's be clear: I couldn't care less whether "nb" or his nit-picking ilk thinks this offering is a bargain or a ripoff. We'll part with it if someone pays the asking price, and keep it if nobody is interested. That's the suble difference between considering a sale and trying to sell. Twice before I have sold motorhomes to readers who found my descriptions to be honest and my price acceptable. If I were desperate or even anxious to sell, I'd go to ebay and let people bid against each other. I'm not, and I'm simply not willing to haggle.
BTW I didn't do much research, but the first comparable unit I priced had a generator but no pop-up top - a '97 Dodge for $27,500.

Its even got an awning! Wow the things they put on these class Bs

Either one could be a good deal for someone. Their price was - $21,995 Now Only - $20,950.
Of course, it is a year older than mine, does not have the pop-up top, no inverter, is shorter than mine, and on an (ugh!) Dodge chassis (g).

Did it also have Air, heat, LP Gas, a stove, city water hookup, gas fridge, and decent cabinetry? Subtract those and the generator out and yours is well a van with a bed and a tiny crapper.

Okay, no hot plate but, an electric skillet isn't that far from a single burner hot plate. Besides, I was going by memory derived from emails of what, five years ago? I was impressed with your approach to the class B vehicle, which it is. The best thing about it is the Stealth look. It can pass for a commercial van in a parking lot and I mean that in a good way.
I don't know why you call my words surprising, I've defended you a lot when I thought you were being criticized wrongly. Since you choose to filter me you have no idea. Maybe that's why I'm quick, at times, to call you an a.shole. Hugh
