I am conducting a online survey of towing MPG of P/U's with trailers.
After I get enough data I plan to plot the results of it. Please follow
the link below if you wish to contribute to it.

Presumably this will give you information about what people claim.
Have you given any thought to trying to get the facts?

If you get enough data you can start to tell fact from fiction. I am
saving it in a data base format so I can sort through it at a later date
(this is the reason for the point and click selections so there is
standardized varibles to use in data base)

I submited my data. Most of the Dodge stuff was OK except it's a 3500 not a
350 like a Furd (shudder)

Thanks Joe, I will remember that. I remember when they were W200's and
D200's and I guess I forgot about the change.

It sounds as if you will tally the results statistically. The oddballs will
be ignored so your results should be meaningful. I think that even the folks
who exaggerate when they talk will be more honest when they are not
identified. Whatever, it's worth the try. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Yes all entries are anonomus. Once I get enough data, I will start the
crunch but I am waiting for the numbers to climb first. I am also saving
each group seperately (gas/diesel, ford/dodge/gm) to analyize them
indivedually first then wrap them together if I want to. Got to have the
data to start with though. Thanks!

Needs more work. You need to fix the lists. Your model
numbers for Dodge aren't correct for '03. Your transmission
choice was incorrect for the automatic used in the Hemi
pickups. Your inputs for mileage are incomplete, you need
more lists covering all conditions. I started answering and
dropped out when I realized you didn't have enough input
lists and some of those you had were incorrect.

The tranny was easy to fix and as far as MPG, .5 steps are more than
enough for this survey as you can round up or down. And trip distance
are estimates as well. As far as conditons. you have to limit the
varibles so I covered the major ones like alt, terrain, tempature and
head wind, weight and so on. This is not rocket science but it does
provide workable data. I plan to do another survey with different
varibles AFTER this one has been completed and lets me fine tune it. The
output is in data format and if I change the amount of fields at this
stage, it makes eariler data unusable (it is in delimited format) I can
change the varibles in the fields easily (like I did with just adding a
5speed auto for dodge now)but not add feilds at this time.

I didn't respond because I have traveled in too many caravans with too
many people that are getting twice the mileage I am getting, yet they
pull into the station every time I do and take on about the same
amount of fuel. In other words, what you collect won't be worth
squat!!

LOL, I was fueling up the big red boy yesterday when I guy pulled to
the pump across from me, in the same truck.

He looked me right in the eye and said he was getting 2o mpg.....

There's no way in hell he's getting that!

Ask anybody to show you his/her gas book of
gallons and miles traveled for the last 1000
miles. No record to show you?  He/she is just
guessing, most likely bragging, and doesn't have a
clue.

You have to take the good with the bad and you will be able to tell the
valid data for invalid because of inconsistancies. SUre there will be
some stretches but not everyone is dishonest and "I" try to give people
the benifit of the doubt. WHen I process it after I get several hundred
entries, I will be able to detect patterns.

It's simpler for me to just say 9.5 mpg towing a 30' travel
trailer weighing about 7,500 lbs and traveling 2500 miles
round trip. Solo, back and forth to the lake, 16 mpg. Towing
speed = 60 mph. Interstate solo, 20 mpg @ 65 mph.

Yabut that is not simpler for the fella trying to do a survey with lots of
input.
