Well, I can't figure it out, so I will ask youse guys .........

When I bring up my home page, or ebay, or lots of sites, the pictures look
like mosaics.  They are recognizable, but appear as small chunks, like a
mosaic.

I went to control panel - display - and went through the stuff there about
the drivers and updating.  It said it had the latest driver, and that it was
functioning properly.

Well, it isn't.

Am I missing something simple, or is my video card shot?

You have some kind of caching software to speed up downloads?? Could be
that. If you can display local pictures (i.e. ones on your system) then your
video card isn't shot.

What sort of video card and what resolution are you running, and what
(program) do you have to display pictures?

If your video card has a higher resolution than your picture display
program, it will appear as squares and smaller then a full picture size..
Sounds like what you are seeing...
Simple way to check, go to control panel/display, and set the size and
number of colors to normal size (lower res) and 16 colors.... If that's it,
don't forget to change it back!

Right click on your desktop is a short cut to adjusting your video settings.

Are they thumbnails? Click on 1 and see if it brings up the large
picture.

If you are getting into the internet via a dialup your provider might be
using one of the "enhanced" speedups like someone mentioned. Providers
like Earthlink, Netzero and others offer this and charge you more for it
(14.95 per month versus 9.99) it just caches the pics to a lower grade
pic to speedup the downloaded page. If you have a photo program open up
a picture in that from some other source? Or a desktop background image
on the boobtube If it looks crisp and clear your computer is probably ok
and its the connection. If you are indeed on cable modem (cox.net?) then
lord knows what the problem might be more technical in the
computer/cable modem? My sisterinlaw had the speedup dialup caching
stuff and if you clicked on the picture (I think right click) you got
some options of looking at it differently?

Delete the browser cache (temporaty Internet files) and try again.

I do not think that will fix it but it is worth a try, I think it is
lack of system memory and resources causing it.

I dump cookies and temp files two to three times a week, so that's not it.
It's got 512 of RAM, so I don't think that is it.

It displays some pics OK but not others.

Am going to venture into my ActiveX controls and see what I can find there.

Just got home from three days near Cedar City, Utah at the cabin.  Four
inches of snow Saturday.  Deer and wild turkey tracks all around us.  It was
10 degrees this AM.

Closest I've come to RVing this month.  Am going quail hunting in my RV
soon, and season is on until Jan 31st.

I remember seeing them in the past, but can't find them now.

More than likely has to do with one of your security programs allowing you
to download the Placeholders (Icons), Prolly one of your "Active X" controls
is not set right. Check your settings again one that's working to find with
one is not correct.
