It has it's risks, but then when one has to take risks like that and can adequately compensate, I don't see much wrong. Depending on what state , you might be breaking the law and any accident what so ever will garner the majority of the blame. Why are the electric brakes not working? You do have a break controller in the tow vehicle don't you?

He is illegal in every and any state he enters.

Frank you just keep putting your foot in it. Your playing a guessing game now, The law is the law and it is not based on if and or but, it is weight and nothing else. By the way did you take note about how long or heavy the trailer is in KY or MO to require brakes. And in what state was the OP going to tow this classic 200 miles. Gotcha! ;-)

>> I see where, William Boyd managed to write: >> [quoted text clipped - 39 lines] > >HARDIE HAR HAR! ;-) There are three states that don't require brakes, however they require that you stop the vehicle within certain legal limits which can't be achieved with a 3/4 ton suburban and a loaded 25' trailer with no brakes. So if it won't stop, then it violates the law.
So once again you have demonstrated to the world your vast store of ignorance, and confirmed to the world that you are still a f.cking idiot.
The only thing you GOT is your pitiful little dick hanging out for the world to stomp on, again.

SURE CAN TELL WHEN FRANK HAS LOST HIS COOL AND THE ARGUMENT. You wouldn't just happen to have a reference to those laws you proclaim to exist. In addition one would have to demonstrate such an inability to stop before he can be sited as breaking the law.

Folks, whatever bird brain Boyd suggests you do, do the opposite. Or at least be sure someone else is willing to back him up.

Sorry Frank, If I could figure out a way to loosen the knot around your nuts that your shorts have wound up in, I would, but they are probably to nasty any way. The reason I stopped posting in RORT was strictly subject matter. Even the mentally challenged individuals such as you, at least most of the time, stay on subject here even if you know little about it. As for my suggestions as what to do in a situation, it will be based on practical experience, of which I do have an abundance. Such as the first turn signals and break controllers I have experience with go back to the clamp on the steering column. Quite some time ago. But at the same time I do not profess to know all models in between.
OH! Yes, Frank I doubt that you will be able to salvage that pair of shorts you have on, I would just throw them away. ;-)

Frank, the language, do I have you in my spell, looks like it. You should not have been concentrating on the magic watch so hard. This reminds me of some thing that happened with a few people with your mentality. As the story goes;
It was entertainment night at the senior center and the Amazing Claude was topping the bill. Frank and his people came from miles around to see the famed hypnotist do his stuff. As Claude went to the front of the meeting room, he announced, "Unlike most hypnotists who invite two or three people up here to be put into a trance, I intend to hypnotize each and every member of the audience." You see Claude was also a good judge of mentality.
The excitement was almost electric as Claude withdrew a beautiful antique pocket watch from his coat. "I want you each to keep your eye on this antique watch. It's a very special watch. It's been in my family for six generations.
He began to swing the watch gently back and forth while quietly chanting, "Watch the watch, watch the watch, watch the watch..." The crowd became mesmerized as the watch swayed back and forth, light gleaming off its polished surface. Hundreds of pairs of eyes followed the swaying watch, until, suddenly,----- it slipped from the hypnotist's fingers and fell to the floor, breaking into a hundred pieces.
sh.t!" said the Hypnotist...
It took three weeks to clean up the senior center
So, you see Frank what can happen when you concentrate on the wrong thing, thought you would have learned by now. You might want to think about how you can get those shorts clean, seems as though you must be going through several pair. But could be crabs after all, or splinters from that slippery slope you cant seem to quit sliding down.

William Boyd - 04 Jan 2006 22:05 GMT > I see where, William Boyd managed to write: > > A bunch of idiocy proving once again he is the village idiot. HAY! FRANK! (Raaphorst) Did you ever figure out how much stopping distance you need?
I think it might be some where around 80 feet if he is going at about 30mph, or 128 feet if he is going 40 mph. Any one knowing they do not have brakes might not go any faster than that, with only 200 miles to go. This is the legal speeds and distances in at least one state. But of course it might not be the one he is going to tow in. His weight might be legal with out brakes in Mass @ 10,000# or Alaska @ 5,000# or the other two states that dont require them at all as long as you can stop in a given distance. But one major thing has been left out of the equation and that is, "you must be able to stop in the standard vehicle distance weather you have a trailer with or with out brakes."

It's against highway regulations in every state, and your life depends on you having brakes. 2 good reasons to have the brakes connected before towing that oldie.

<ahem> Seriously, yours is a "loaded" question with WAAAAY too many unknown factors and variables.
In your favor, it is a 3/4-ton Suburban, probably the all-time best tow vehicle for all but the largest of travel trailers.
Assuming (hoping) the Suburban's brakes are good, the biggest problem you could face is an emergency/panic stop. Quadruple your following distance and make the trip during a period of LIGHT traffic. 2:00 A.M. might be best.
Good luck. You might need it.
