This coming June my wife and I are going to rent a small RV and tour the
continental divide areas of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. I have been reading
about a portion of the Medicine Bow Mountains called locally the Snowy
Range. The book, Moon Handbook for Wyoming raves about this area. However we
are starting our trip in Salt Lake and this is further east than I think I
want to go. Have you been to this area of Wyoming? It is worth going that
far east?

Any place that you have not visited is worth going to see
the first time. If you do not go on the first trip you may
never see it because what you do see may not be worth a
second trip. So that would definitely put it to far to go on
the next trip.

June is probably a little early for anything but a drive through of the
Snowy mountains. We were there the last day of June in 2004 and many if not
all the side roads were still closed because the snow had not melted. Up
high there are 'alpine' type lakes and you are above tree line. However,
unless you are on an extended trip it probably wouldn't be worth the time to
back that far east.
You may find most June to be a little early for much of the high country.
Highways should be open, but many of the non-paved roads are closed until
the snow melts and the roads dry out.
