Does anyone make a manually operated crank-up dish for DirecTV that has
multi-sat capability? The only unit I've found to date is an automatic
unit that runs around $1,500 to $2,000. I would prefer just a manual
crank-up version instead.
Thanks

I don't think what your asking for is possible with current hardware.
To have multi-sat capability, the dish must either physically re-point
to switch satellites or have two (or more) LNBs, each of which points to
a different satellite, like the typical Dish 500 antenna.
A double-LNB dish must be "skewed"--rotated around the attachment point
of the LNBs--to a different angle, depending on your location, to allow
the two LNBs to be oriented properly. The problem with a manual roof-top
antenna is that there is no way to accomplish that. You can change the
azimuth and elevation, but not the skew.
Motosat makes an automatic antenna that does that, as you have found.

True, but I figured maybe they might motorize the skew with a push button,
so azimuth and elevation could be mechanical and the skew could be a
remote-controlled motor with push buttons.
Hmmmm maybe I should invent one and market it.....

You invent it, and I'll buy it.
If money were no object, I would buy the motorized MotoSat in a minute.
The automatic under-a-dome dish we have on this rig is a piece of junk.
I frequently have to screw around with it to get it to locate the right
satellite and it is MUCH more susceptible to rain fade than the crank-up
dish we had on the last rig. It would be nice to be able to get the Dish
110 and 119 simultaneously.

I agree about the crank up dish being much better than the automatic
one. We mostly watch what's on the 119 anyway. If we are going to be
some place for over a week, I'll put up the tripod with the Dish 500, if
I'm in the mood. Otherwise, we don't really miss the 110 unless there is
a baseball game coming from the west coast, then I just repoint the roof
dish to the 110 for the duration and point it back.

The only reasons I ever set up the Dish 500 tripod are if the weather is
too crappy for the roof-top under-the-dome antenna to work well or if I
want the one-week guide that comes off the 110 satellite. The guide
that's on the 119 is only for the next two days or so.
We don't watch any of the programming on the 110.

Would'nt you have to subscribe to Direct and Dish networks for their
sat.use?
