After Market Cruise Control

I recently bought a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500, Cummins diesel and a 6 speed
stick.  I propose to use the truck to pull an 11,000 lb 5th wheel rig.
Truck was not equipped with a cruise control, and I would like to add an
after market unit.

Any experiences or suggestions?

Hi Ed,
You might want to try the Dodge Cummins group at
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/

Those guys know just about everything there is to know about a Dodge
diesel and what works and what doesn't.  Check out the forums, the
answer might already be there.  You can do a search to see.

Take care and Happy Campin...

Thanks for the tip.  I never would have found this site without your help.

Suggestion, let the dealer install the OEM unit.  It will integrate with
the computer better.  Diesel cruise control is not a mechanical link
like gas engines.  It's an electrical hook up feeding the injectors and
the fuel pump.

I agree. Even though our '02 Sierra was a gasser, I had an aftermarket
mechanical cruise control installed, what a pain in the butt. Every
time I hit the brake the gas pedal slammed back. First time it
happened it was a surprise.

On the diesel, the pedal never moves, like a gasser does.  It's all
electronic since there is no throttle plate to open and close.

I had a similar experience with a GMC Sierra many years ago.  The unit
worked okay but was a general pain in the butt!

Wish I could do that.  I was told by the dealer that there is no Mopar
kit available to do that and only an after market device would be available.
