Fiver lengths

A friend of mine is looking at fifth wheels, and he mentioned two
models: "292 (33 ft) and the 339 (36'10")".

I thought the model number of a fiver always indicated the length of the
living space in the trailer. Is this a change, or have I always been
wrong?

Well I also thought like you and this link, in my judgment
confirms that.

Not knowing the make of the 5ers you are referring to I
cannot do any research. But to make a WAG, I believe your
friend is looking at specs of TTs which is measured from the
most exterior components just like the 5ers, but you have
the hitch to include on the TT. I'm not sure but I would
think you would have to include the spare tire also when
attached to the back bumper.

You've been often wrong lately.

An RV's length was frequently ACCURATELY implied from the model number, but
this was never 100%.

In recent years I have noticed that conformance to this near-tradition has
declined.

You must be thinking of somebody else. All of my posts come with a
money-back guarantee for accuracy, completeness, and relevance to the
topic at hand.

Except this one.

Hi Dave,
Used to be that most were close, at least in the same foot :)  But
anymore the numbers really don't have a good correlation to the length.
Not only for 5th wheels but most all RV's.  My MH is listed at a 36OP
but it's really closer to 38 feet long.

Take care and Happy Campin...

It is my understanding that most/many RV manufacturers use the frame length
of 5th wheel trailers as part of the model number.  End caps, bumpers, etc.
add to that length.  For instance, ours has a 35 in the model number. but is
actually 36' 10" long.

I think it must apply to frame length.  Our Cedar Creek 30 is actually 33'
long.

There is no rule.  For a while I thought it might be measuring the
inside dimensions but that doesn't fit all of them either.
