We are a group of guys from Chicago, and are looking for a weekend
getaway in the form of camping. We want to have fun, drink beer, and
listen to music. Are there any sites that anyone knows that aren't
"family" sites, and that cater to adults?  We are looking for
southeastern michigan, northwest indiana.

LOL. My bet is that many/most campgrounds that "cater to adults" cater
to the kind who DON'T want to camp with people who are "having fun,
drinking beer, and listening to music." Of course, "having fun" depends
on one's point of view; one person's fun is another's aggravation.
Public consumption of alcohol may or may not go over. And you could be
talking about quiet classical piano music, but I kinda doubt it.

Not that there's anything wrong with any of the above. And I'm not
taking sides, just speculating.

Good luck, anyway. Let us know what you find so folks here can either go
there too or avoid the place, depending <g>....

Agree. Campgrounds in general have "quiet hours".

Many moons ago (longer than I will admit to) a group of guys did
something like that.  We found a farmer that would let us use a piece of
his land.

About 25 years ago we were camped at a small CG (Willow Springs) up on
the Mogollon Rim near Payson.  There were a number of camping groups
and it was very pleasant.  There was one group that decided we all
would enjoy their selection of musical favorites.

No one disputed this (erroneous) thought until the designated quiet
hour of 10PM.  A couple of yelled requests to "tone it down" and "can
the noise" went unheeded.

At about 10:30 we were playing cards with our camp mates when someone
walked through our site.  He walked straight, fast, determined and
without so much as a by your leave.

He walked up to the offending site and without comment, pulled what
looked to be a .357 or .44 magnum.  He took careful aim at the
"boombox" and dispatched it with a single well placed shot.

He then said, "If any of you guys wants the same, just give me some
sh.t!"

Applause and cheers all around.

They packed and left in less than 5 minutes.

Sometimes the direct approach beats negotiation.

Also years ago, a local mall lot attracted some particularly rowdy
youth -yelling, drinking, smoking tires, etc.   An acquaintance cut
some eyeholes in a bedsheet and arrived on the scene in time to let
the air outa just one smoky tire with a single shot from a small
caliber persuader.  In the ensuing silence he said "Rats!  I missed!"
The parking lot was empty before he could walk away.

how about your back yard?  seriously, most private campgrounds i have
been in allow alcohol but frown on rowdiness.  and state parks ban
alcohol altogether.  if you keep the rowdiness and music level down
then you'd be welcome most anywhere.  good luck.

Hi mike,
Not gonna happen unless you find a very special campground owner.
Nearly all campgrounds have quiet hours, from like 10-11 PM to 7-8 AM.
Some have restrictions on drinking.  Adult campgrounds usually mean old
geezers by your standards, no kids and that includes noisy 30 year old's
and under.  Nothin ticks off old geezers like loud music, laughing,
yelling and runin around when it's bedtime.  You wouldn't last 5 minutes
past quiet time :)  National and State parks are iffy too, many don't
allow alcohol and may have quiet hours to boot.

Rich256 had the best idea find a friendly farmer.  Maybe even a small
picnic grove that you can rent for a day or two, away from people.  Just
be sure to let em know what you're up to and that you will clean up
after yourselves.  Pitch a couple of tents.  We have family get
togethers where the younger folks do that out away from the older ones
in the evenings.  Usually run from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.

Take care and Happy Campin...

If you can camp WITHOUT an electric hookup, your odds INCREASE that you'll
find a place that you can hang out, kick back and probably not disturb anyone
else as long as you shut off the LOUD stuff at 10:00 P.M.

FWIW, during "high season", I don't expect serious QUIET on a Friday or
Saturday night until midnight.  I'm usually not disappointed.   <sigh>

Iowa state parks allow alcohol while adjoining Nebraska's do NOT.  Your
circumstances may vary.  If you don't plan to break any law or rule, run your
plan past the park manager or superintendent.  It's their home.  They might
actually work with you to have a good time and not tick-off the neighbors.
Good luck!

Go into the woods somewhere far away, preferably with a mountain between you
and everybody else. Forget about doing what you want to do in a campground.
You simply won't find a campground where you can do that without upsetting
others unless you are the only ones there.

There's a campground near me which caters to the younger crowd that likes to
party.  It's approx. 2 hours east of Detroit.  Probably a little far for
you, but just to let you know there are campgrounds that are not "family"
oriented and may be more enjoyable for a group of guys to visit.  I have not
been to this campground, nor do I desire to, so I can't say first hand what
it is like.
For what its worth you can check it out here.............
