I saw recently that repairs have been completed on the last stretch of
the BRP that was damaged last year by tropical storms. The entire
parkway is now open.

The damaged area was in the area from Linville to Spruce Pine.

There's still one section of the BRP in NC closed, for tunnel repair (I
don't think that's storm-related).  It's from MP 344 (NC 80) to MP 355
(north of Mt Mitchell SP).  MMSP can still be acessed from the south
(Asheville) side on an up-and-back basis.

You can get weather and road conditions for the BRP anytime at
828-298-0398.  That number has a tape with info for NC & VA, including
closures, that's updated daily.

coffee, you idiot'."

Thanks,

It took two trips but I ran it including detours the last two years.  Now I
have to go back and run it correctly.

I assume that means doing the whole length in one trip. Are you going down
or up the BRP? When I did it, I went down the Parkway.

I want to do it combined with the Skyline Drive and during late Spring.
Probably South to North.

That's "down." The south end of the BRP is the highest, and the north end is
the lowest. Skyline Drive is a future trip for me, which I might combine
with trout fishing in the Shenendoahs.

Be aware that the facilities on these roads close for the winter
season.  Make sure they will be open for your spring trip.

We did the Skyline drive last fall the day before they closed on
the way from Knoxville to Philadelphia.  On the way back we took
a good part of the Blue Ridge, but got off because nothing was
open, not that there is a whole lot open when it is open on the
northern end of the Blue Ridge.  That road, nice as it is, is
really boring.  Not a billboard to be seen anywhere!  And you
can't even get any radio stations (satellite excepted...).  We
had the car, not the RV, so someplace to GO was a problem.

Thank you for posting that.  Hopefully it will keep like-minded people
OFF that beautiful road, and on the exciting interstate highways where
they belong!

We did it last year North to South starting a Skyline-really nice trip even
though it was closed at Linville I was glad we got off and took the walk
under the viaduct really neat rocks and twisty trail under the bridge
