I have a small viking pop up truck camper. I have a bad back and the
matress
in it is not very stiff. I put a thermorest matress on top of it which
is a decent back packing matress, but it's still not as stiff as my
matress at home. Is there something available I could l ook into ? I'd
like to have something similar in thickness as there is just enough
clearance over the cab to fit a 9 foot surfboard inside with the top
down. I think the matress might be like
a double size, maybe queen size, probably not. Other than the matress
issue, I seem to sleep better in my camper than my stuffy condo.

Measure the size of the platform that the current mattress is resting
on. Now go to most any larger city and go to the "Mattress Outlet" or
"Mattress Factory" type stores until you find one that will custom
build a mattress to fit your space that is like the one on display
that feels right for you.
I have Sealy Posturepedic in my RV!

Our small Class C came with a HARD 2" foam pad for the cabover bed.
My wife and I went to Walmart and bought a good quality 60" X 72" air
mattress/bed. It is not a cheep "pool type" air mattress, but is of a
fabric & vinyl material. We then added a 1" pad of Memory Foam to soften
the surface, but not remove the firmness of the foundation.
By adjusting the air pressure (we also bought a GOOD electric pump), we can
adjust the firmness from VERY hard down to VERY soft. We also have a dual
chamber king size air bed at home.
I'd suggest that you go to Walmart and buy the best quality air mattress/bed
they have. Take it home and try it in your camper. If you don't like it...
Deflate it, box it up, return it, and get your money back.
Good Luck

There are various densities of foam that make very good mattresses on a bare
plywood board. Hardware store, furntiure repair shop, or even Wal Mart might
have what you want.
