We're camping with my daughter (et al) this weekend. Only last night did she
reveal to me that the expensive Eureka! Sunrise 11 that I bought them has a
"broken" pole. Further discussion revealed that it is only the elastic "shock
cord" that apparently came unknotted and pulled OUT of the pole.
How do we get that stupid elastic cord back through the pole(s)?
There must be some sort of [something] that can be PUSHED through the pole
onto which the shockcord (or smaller "pull cord") is attached to be pulled
BACK THROUGH the tent pole.
I have "fished" walls and pipe a LOT but never a passage as SMALL as the
little, hollow tube running the interior length of each fiberglass pole.
What's the procedure? TIA!

You use a long thin wire like a needle as shown here.

It just has to be longer than one section of the pole. Any thing thats thin
enough and stiff enough to go through the pole should work.

You can buy them cheaply in various sizes at the usual stores. The last
one I bought was less than $10.

You should always carry spare shock chord with you. But try fishing
line with a small split shot or two - make the line longer than the
pole length - drop it thru and oull the cord thru.

I use fishing line. I use about 25 LB test line and thread it through each
piece and then tie the cord off. Pull the cord through and tie kntos

One possibility that hasn’t been mentioned is to attach some sort
of light weight cord to a ball/wad of paper that will fit through
the poles and use a vacuum cleaner to suck it through. Remember
to tether the bitter end.

Good Idea, however the tube size of tent poles negates the use of vacuum. At
least what JQ public has. You just cannot create enough vacuum with your
average cleaner. You would probably need a vacuum pump. Your idea is great
for getting a pull line through PVC though, when you are running electric.

You can probably use the poles without the cord. Fix it when you get home.
I was I just fishing on Lake Powell with a friend who had loaned his tent to
another "friend." There "friend" had apparently never used such a tent and
cut all the shock cords. My friend set up the tent anyway.
