Newbie here. Retired OTR driver, we have an '01 Ram2500 Quad Cab full bed,
5.9 Cummins, auto. Just bought an '06 Montana Mountaineer Edition, 35' 11".
Trip home performed beautifully, running w/OD off. We're gioing to be
"full-timers" once house is cleared out & sold.

My question - Is the 50A power cord actually a double 120V, or a 240V
hookup? I'm assuming at this point that there is nothing in the RV that uses
240V, so actually wiring a 30A/240V should work. I'm making these
assumptions because the 30A adapter just takes the single phase 120 feed and
puts it on both legs of the 50A plug.

TIA for any help.

OOPS! "gioing" was supposed to be "going".

In a campground you are going to have the 30A 120 or the 50A 240, so
making an adapter diffenent from the 50 to 30 pig tails you buy
already made up is not worth the hassle. Now, if you are talking about
a plugin at home, put in the 50A service, because the cost diffenence
is minor.

The 50 amp is a 120/240 volt connection. The difference in cost between a 30
amp 120/240 connection, and a 50 amp 120/240 connection is so small you
might as well use the 50 amp. Now, if you're talking about using an older
style 30 amp dryer plug, it won't work. The white, or what the 30 to 50
adapter assumes is the neutral will be feeding 120 volts across the neutral
line to the MH. You will fry a lot of equipment.

Thank you! I spent many years in large scale EDP mainframe
repair/maintenance, so power is no stranger, but they don't really tell you
a whole lot about it, and the owners manual is rather mute.

Now I'll confess . . . went out after posting message to hook up the shore
power @ daughter's house, where it's currently parked, and saw that big
LABEL next to the plug "125/250V". Also found out why wife said she couldn't
get the slides to work, one of grand-daughters had turned on the night
hookup light and drained the battery. We live, we learn, we tell them again
to leave it alone.
