This thursday june 1, my band has a gig in oceanside long island
(close to NYC) opening for the old band cactus. We are from boston. I
have a small pop up truck camper. My singer has no money,
him and I need a place to stay that night in my camper. He will have
his car since he is coming down late thursday and I am going on
wednesday. The web site for heckcher state park says no arriving during
quiet time after 10, and only 1 car per site so that sounds like a
possible problem as we will be out until late. I called a few walmarts
around there that said you can't stay there.
I can easily afford a campsite if there was a place, otherwise any
truck stop, rest area, that is safe etc would be fine as long as trucks
won't be pulling in and leaving right next to us all night. Even
something on the way home in southwest connecticut would do.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about your area of the country, but in most places, most
truck stops -- especially Flying J -- welcome overnight RVers and have a
separate RV parking area away from the trucks. That might be your best
bet. They also have restaurants -- truckers gotta eat. Check FlyingJ.com
for locations in that area. A bit of creative Googling will get you info
on other truck stops.

Most truck stops also have showers. FJ has really nice, clean ones, at
least the ones I've seen -- some other truck stops that I've also seen
have ranged from moderately dirty all the way to downright filthy. You
can use them for a nominal amount ($5-$8?, and they furnish the soap and
towels). Truckers get showers free with a fillup, but your truck won't
hold enough fuel to get that deal.
