Sorry for this again, but I have a 1 year old rig, w/ one 12v deep cycle. I
may go camping without hookups this summer, and thought an additional
battery would be useful. I have another spot for one, so I understand this
would be wired in series? that meaning neg to neg, pos to pos?? I also am
pretty sure I can get the same battery, so I hope the one year in age would
not be a problem??

I think I mean parallel, I was thinking of the 2 six volt batteries

No problem with what you are planning. Just remember, when you don't
have that cord plugged in, everything you turn on is drawing current
until you turn it off. You don't use any current unless it is
absolutely necessary. No 12 volt TV, 12 volt coffee maker, 12 volt
hair curlers, no outside lights, only1 inside light on at the time,
etc.

Nothing wrong with a second battery.  Just be sure you put it into a good
case and vent/drain it properly.  This kind of hardware, and advice, is
available at most RV dealers and isn't very expensive (especially advice).
Also remember that if everything is working right you are charging while
pulling.

Just for reference, we spent six nights in Smoky Mountain NP without hookups
about 1-1/2 years ago on a single battery (31' 5th wheel).  We had to run
the engine for awhile after about four nights to get the battery charged
again and did fine after that.  About six months later we tried the same
thing in Rocky Mountain NP and had trouble running two or three nights at a
time.  The following spring dropped to one night and we had to change
batteries.  It isn't a bad idea to charge your battery overnight once a
month or so during the off-season just to keep it happy.  I usually mark the
calendar and do the trailer and our back-up sump pump batteries at the same
time.

I went to where I bought the trailer, and bought the same battery,  same
case, and wires. Finished it all up just 10 minutes ago. Thanks for all the
responses. I feel I can pee farther already, LOL.

Just be sure you have a good charge before you take off.  If you don't
have a hydrometer, get one so you can make a good measurement.  Good
charger is in line too.

There are several good sites for information on batteries and
maintenance. Such as:

This makes it easy.
