Just a note to all who may be coming thru Knoxville, Tennessee.  The
store at Turkey Creek on the west side of Knoxville now has no overnight
parking signs posted.  However, the Wal*Mart and Sams closer to town
(the Walbrook street address) does not have signs...yet...  I don't know
about the Sams store on the eastern side of town.  I live near the
Turkey Creek store.

John,

The posted signs are often Wal-Mart's compliance with local ordinances
so that when some fool tries to live on the parking lot, the police can
easily remove him. I've spent many, many nights in Wal-Mart lots so
marked. But I check with someone in the store who can give me a
definitive answer about spending the night.

There are very few Wall-Marts who don't actually allow ovenight
parking. It's usually the ones near popular vacation destinations.

As far as I know, there is no new local ordinance that is being
implemented.  This lot at the Turkey Creek Wal*Mart, however, is common
to a lot of stores, not just Wal*Mart, so there may be some other legal
forces at work.  Also, recently, the ad-hoc used car lot that happen
there disappeared with signs warning of towing.

I occasionally use the Wal*Mart lots, and I have used this one once. I
always ask first and park in the suggested location.  Mrs. A does not
like to do this, though, so we normally use commercial or public facilities.
