I have a kit car using a 1971 VW 1600 cc engine. It now uses a Solex
carb. Can I buy an aftermarket kit to convert it to Electronic fuel
injection?

If so, do you know where they are available?

Thanks,

I recommend rec.autos.makers.vw.watercooled or
rec.autos.makers.vw.aircooled, whichever is appropriate for your
engine. Here in alt.rv, we discuss motorhomes and travel trailers.

THe easest way to do this would be to find that model engine that has
FI on it and use its parts. I am not sure when they when to FI on that
engine but I think they did shortly before it was discontinued.

Yeah, they did, and I had one.  What a bummer.  The barometer
unit failed repeatedly.  Interesting symptom: the engine would
start normally, but when the accelerator was pressed, it would
die.  I replaced a number of them at $80 each, quite a bit then,
then sold it for an Audi on which the gear shift broke off, the
floor boards fell out, and the mechanic refused to work on it
again!!!!

Hopefully you're not a member of the military with responsibility for target
acquisition for missile launches.

Try J.C. Whitney. I Porscheized a VW in the Philippines with their help.
