My question is, do you think they are asking too much for it as they
are asking $1400.00 for it and they said that the absolute lowest they
are willing to go is $1200.00. For a camper this old what do you think
it should be worth? Also how are tent trailers for camping? Does it get
damp inside like a tent when it rains? Are they easy to set up? Can one
person set it up alone?

another question that might get a better answer from those at:

Agreed, but I will take a shot here since I see this now. This is a really
old trailer. If it is in perfect shape and everything works and it glows
with coolness, then I might consider it. I would need to see it and really
check it out though.
Popups stay very dry inside when set up right and there are no leaks (one of
the things I would suspect in original canvass that old - attack it with a
hose when set up to try that out). My popup can withstand a pretty vigorous
rainstorm (and has) without the inside getting any wet at all. The key is
that you are off of the ground.
Once you get the hang of how to do it, set up is easy. 2 weekends ago it
took me the same time to set up my popup as it did the guy next to me in a
big dome tent. The hardest part is the cranking up of the roof. I
generally do all the setting up of it myself, alone, and then the wife takes
over to assemble the stuff inside when I am done. I do get a bit of help
with someone holding up one of the awning poles as I get the other one in
place though. I suspect that a 1978 popup will be a lot more difficult to
set up than the newer ones. You will really need to try it out.

I would really look hard at the canvas & netting in this unit. At that age
I would suspect that it is near the rot stage. Just by touching the netting
could it disintegrate?
If it has sat in the closed position for any length of time the materials
could be ready to separate. Check it out & the fabrics on the seats & the
bed.

That seems like top dollar so it would need to be in really good shape
with everything working. I would look for worn, deformed or missing
rollers in the lift arms - these are relatively easy to replace but
may be hard to find. These trailers had a goofy setup for joining the
canvas to the door frame - make sure it still works. The tires are
probably shot. As others have mentioned, look for boogy screens or
rotten canvas.
As far as camping in a tent trailer goes, BTDT. It can be fun - if
the alternative is a tent then it is a definite step up. Bonairs are
dirt simple to set up if everything is working and they are light
enough that you can wheel them around like a wheelbarrow to get into a
site.
